WHY DID THE CHICKEN CROSS THE ROAD?

SARAH PALIN: Before it got to the other side, I shot the chicken, cleaned and dressed it, and had chicken burgers for lunch.

GEORGE W. BUSH: We don’t really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here.

PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken doesn’t realize that he must first deal with the problem on this side of the road before it goes after the problem on the other side of the road. OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I’m going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN: We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed access to the other side of the road.

They Are Gone !!!

It seems our AOL Journals are gone, just like was predicted. I clicked on the link to mine and it is indeed gone. This is a sad day ! Now I have to figure out how to add pictures, change the background & add all the other little doo-dads I had in my AOL journal.

My blog was finished off by Robin while I was away, frolicking in the sun of southern California. She did a beautiful job, but I can't keep the fall look up forever.

I'm leaving soon for the grocery store (it will be weird to drive my car again), then to see my doctor and then to pick up my little Gabi. I understand she has made herself comfortable....sleeping and lounging on the dryer over at my daughter & son in law's house. She'll probably be upset with me for removing her from her new comfort zone. I don't think she's even missed me.

Honey, I'm Home !!!

Hello out there all you Bloggers !

Linda is home & I wanted you to know I'll be doing a real post soon. We got in about 2 o'clock this afternoon, the camper is unloaded, there are 7 piles of laundry all sorted & waiting to be washed and bags of stuff all over the living room, to be sorted thru. As usual I did do a little shopping here & there, but as we unloaded the camper...it just got all thrown together and brought in the house and dumped.

We traveled a total of 2,813 miles and again were blessed to not be involved in an accident, nor did we see one. I'm always grateful for that. We saw this country's beautiful west coast twice, since we took Highway 101 both ways. And for awhile, coming home we were right down close to the ocean on Highway 1 but had to back track and head over to 101 because of wildfires near Big Sur. We did camp on night on Highway 1, in the San Simeon campground near Hearst Castle (that night is nearly a full entry in itself~coming later). I thought of you Bucko when we walked out on the pier at Pismo Beach the second time...it was another beautiful warm sunny day and there were lots of surfers out there. Coming home the gas prices were lower....Bob spent $373 for gas coming home, while the gas going south in September came to $441. The $68 dollar difference is about the equivalent to an extra tank of gas.

I Wanna Go Home !

It's another 90* plus day here in Pasadena. I'm really longing for the 50* and drizzle of the Pacific Northwest. Bob is doing a few things on his daughter's "Honey Do" list and says we'll head out Monday. Her husband is a hard worker & provides well for the family, but he's not handy around the house, so Hope is always glad when dad comes to visit. I've had to call my doctor at home and ask for another antibiotic for this crud I'm fighting. I have a Rx from the doctor I saw here last Monday, but my insurance won't pay for it here unless it's written by my primary care giver. So hopefully, she'll agree to call it in at the Target here in Pasadena and I can get it filled this evening. Other than that nothing much is new. Oh, yes Bob is feeling much better. He's actually doing better than I am right now.

I want to thank that dear sweet Robin over in Tampa for helping me out with this migration business yesterday. I made so many attempts to transfer my journal that were unsuccessful and then when it finally did work, I couldn't get it to "publish." But Robin came to my rescue...clear across the country. Isn't that amazing? So thank you again Robin, you were a life saver (actually maybe Bob's life saver). I would have wanted to get home really fast had that transfer business not worked. This way, I won't be beating him on the head everyday to drive faster.

After several tries, I think I've finally & successfully transferred my AOL Journal to Blogger.

The Last One

It's sad....but this will be my last entry.  I know you are all safely blogging away somewhere else.  And since there doesn't seem to be any alerts anymore, I'll let my journal go by the wayside.  

I still have no idea when we'll leave here or when I'll be home for sure.  I just hope I can find you all when I do get home and set up "Linda's World" in the new place.

Parts of southern California are on fire~

We heard right away this morning that parts of southern California were on fire.  I knew the Santa Ana winds had picked up so all it takes is a discarded cigarette to start the fires in this very dry area.  Right here where we are, we're ok.  But we can see smoke in the distance and as we made our way around in the car today, they kept breaking into the broadcasting to warn of certain parts of the different freeways being closed because the fires were right down along the highway.  Right at this time, the wind has died down but they are expected to pick up again tonight.  Wind gusts of 60 to 70 miles an hour are forecasted for later.  They do such a great job of warning the residents of the different areas of the approaching fire danger.  There's been on going covereage on the television and radio all day. 

One of the things I saw on the TV this morning was the battering that Catalina Island was getting....caused by the high winds and the surf.  The bulkhead and beach area at Avalon, where we were just visiting a couple weeks ago was really getting blasted by the surf.

Bob and I took off this morning and he took me to Hope's doctor.  He said I still have some crackling sounds in my lungs but  no elevated temperature and my ears are fine. He sold me an Albuterol inhaler so I think that well really help with my breathing. 

After that we ventured over to Baldwin Park to the In-N-Out Company Store.  It was so fun to buy a few things there and then cross the parking lot and have some lunch.  From there we came back into Pasadena and visited The Container Store.  Wow, what a place that is !  That store has everything you can imagine in the way of containers & storage items. 

Bob woke up feeling miserable this morning~probably has the start of what I have. But he was a good sport and drove me around....he's now taking a nap. 

Still not sure when we're heading home but it will be in the next few days...until next time, Linda

They are on the ship & I am on the shore~

Well, our ship (Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas) left for the Mexican Rivera this evening about 5pm.  Bob & I watched the clock all afternoon ~ 1:30pm; we'd be up in the Windjammer having a fine buffet lunch.   3pm; we'd be in our cabin putting away our clothes now.  4:30pm; get your life jacket on, lets go to our muster station.  5pm; life jackets off & put away in the cabin...lets get up on deck and join the "sail away" party.  On and on it went and when we saw the big full moon, I told Bob here we are "land locked" and they are out sailing under a big full moon.    Hopefully they will have smooth sailing and not be troubled by the approaching hurricanes. I've left my email address with the folks that signed up for the "Meet & Mingle" event so I bet I'll hear first hand about their adventures.

It was a cooler day here today.  I would imagine in the low 70's but the weatherman has said to expect 90* by Tuesday.  I'm hoping we can start heading north Wednesday or Thursday at the latest.

Finally Friday

It's been a pleasant day here in Pasadena.  Probably about 78* at the most.  Last night it cooled down to the middle 60's and boy did that feel good for this sissy from the northwest!   I understand from my daughter the Seattle weather guys have put out a "frost alert" for Saturday morning. There goes my hanging baskets!

We took a ride to the Wal Mart over in Duarte, CA today.  Guess what dominates that whole back corner of the store ?  CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS !!!!!   I couldn't believe my eyes.  It seems they come out a little earlier each year. 

We had planned to go to the In-N-Out store over in Baldwin Park but the freeway was so backed up, we gave it up for today.

I'm feeling a little better.....I took the last of the Zithromax today.  I still have a horrible cough and am a little short of breath (so glad I've never been a smoker).  If that doesn't improve I'm going to have to go to either a doctor or back to the E.R. and get a Rx for an albuterol inhaler. I have one at home but didn't think to bring it.

Since we are not cruising next week...I imagine we'll head out towards home by the end of next week.  Bob is saying he wants to go back up Highway 101 on the coast.  I say let's just head up I-5 and get there but I'm only the passenger.  

I'm anxious to get home and get this journal transferred over.  I haven't even checked out any of your new Blogs because I can't save the links on a borrowed lap top.  Does that make sense ?  But when I get back to my own computer~watch out !!

I finished the Jan Karon book and have started reading Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks.  It is good.  When I get home, I'll want to see the movie.    Also, today at Wal Mart I bought the new book by Richard Paul Evans ~ Grace.  He is a great author and has a new book out every year at this time.  His firstbook The Christmas Box was read by millions and was also made into a movie starring Richard Thomas.

Last evening I was intorduced to my first black widow spider.  Hope wanted me to see it so I'd know what one looks like.  It was big & ugly and now it's deceased !!!!

Great Book

When my journal friend Trees came thru town in August, she brought me a book by Jan Karon titled "Light From Heaven."  I have to say it's the most delightful book I think I've ever read.  I think it's actually book nine in Jan Karon's Mitford series.  So when I get home I'll be scouting eBay and Half Price Books for the rest of these books.   

If you're a reader and would like a clean, delightful series to read...I highly recommend these books from Jan Karon.

Trees...thank you again from the bottom of my heart for this book..it has brought me hours of pleasant reading.

The police helicopters are circling over the house~what's going on?  Bob's grand daughter Nina and I are here alone.....yikes

Tuesday Update

The outdoor thermometer is reading well over 90* today & the one I stuck in my mouth earlier this morning was reading 100*.  I'm not feeling all that great today.  But I've taken the 3rd antibiotic and I'm hopeful that tomorrow will be a better day. 

Joann was able to get the pictures posted of our Sunday visit...as usual, I blinked or closed my eyes or something.  She's talented because she took these pictures on her cell phone and then got them into her computer....I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Hot again in Pasadena

Well I had a horrible night of coughing.  Finally about 2am I turned my overhead light on and read my book for a couple hours.  Finally fell asleep about 4am and woke up at 830am feeling absolutely horrible.  I called my insurance company and they said I needed to go to a hospital emergency room in order for them to pay. So Bob took me to the Methodist Hospital over in Arcadia, CA. 

I was having some pains in my chest so when they took me back they hooked me up to all the monitors, did an EKG and drew 7 vials of blood.  I think that doctor ordered tests on everything.   Six and half hours later I was given copies of all my tests, discharge instructions and a Rx for Zithromax.  The diagnosis was "bronchitis" and apparently no cardiac problems, thankfully !

I think at this point the Mexican Rivera cruise is out of the question. In the past it's taken 3 or 4 weeks for me to completely get over this stuff and I just can't see taking the chance of having a relapse somewhere in Mexico.  So hopefully the insurance company will take pity on us and refund as much of our money as possible.

Meanwhile we'll hang around here until my Rx is gone, and I feel better...then we'll head home.

Thanks Joann for coming over and thank you again for the gift you brought to me.    Hopefully we'll have another chance to visit before I head home later this month.

I'm kind of feeling like I may be getting bronchitis.  Tonight my throat is scratchy.....I've been drinking water like crazy and will take a Benadryl when I go to bed later.  Monday, I'm going to call my insurance & see what doctor I can visit here in Pasadena incase I need some medical attention.  Keeping my fingers crossed that whatever it is will go away.

Rainy Day in Pasadena

It was a rainy, lazy day here today.  And now tonight Bob & I are here alone. His daughter and family had a prior commitment and we told them to go ahead & go.  We warmed up left overs and I'm doing some laundry, doing a journal entry and watching TV. 

This rain is most welcome to southern California.  Things are really dry.  I know on Wednesday when we were on Catalina Island, I visited the Wrigley Botanical Garden & the gardeners there expressed their concern at the "drought" that they have been having. They've got all those hundreds of trees, shrubs & plants to keep alive and very little water. One of the gardeners told us that day that rain was expected today & they were hoping the forecast was correct.

One day next week we'll head down to the LA wholesale district to the handbag section.  I got a purse there when we were down here in March of 2007 and it's just about to fall apart.  I use it all the time and I love it, so I'm hoping I can find another one very similar. 

Other than that, we have no big plans until the 12th when we get back on that big boat.  I hope this next time, there's no "rock & roll" business.

Back In Pasadena

Hi everyone !  There's been a lot going on this week while I was out sailing.....I tried to post an entry from the Internet Lounge on board the other day and I could not get my entry to "save."  And at 55 cents a minute, I couldn't wait around forever...so just logged off.

I can't do a thing about my journal until I get home.  So I'm hoping all the emails with your new journal links will still be in my unread email until then.  We aren't planning to be home until the end of October.

We did have a good 4 day cruise.  Took lots of pictures & the weather was very warm each day.  I was excited to get to go ashore in Ensenada, Mexico this time (remember in March I was stuck in the cabin icing my wounded knee).

It's warm here again today, but a man over on Catalina Island told me they were expecting rain this weekend, so we may get rain here too.

Last night about an hour out of Ensenada, the sea got very rough and I don't mind admitting....I was a little queasy and sort of scared. I don't like the rock 'n roll stuff out on the water no matter what size boat it is.   

I guess that's all for now....I'm just hoping my transition over to Blogspot will be a smooth one, once I can get  home to my own computer.
