I Need You Opinion

I'm sitting here tonight scratching my head about something that happened/didn't happen this evening.  Here's what happened/didn't happen; earlier in the week an acquaintance of mine called me and invited me to go with her to a Ladies Craft Night at her church this evening.  I checked my calendar, nothing going on so I said "yes, that sounds like fun."  Yesterday I was talking with her again and she asked if I was still planning on going with her tonight.  Again I told her yes and I asked her when it started.  She went and checked and came back to the phone and said it starts at 6:30pm.  So about 5:45pm this evening I changed my clothes, combed my hair, put some fresh lipstick on and finished my dishes while I waited for her to pick me up.   Now I know where her church is located (approximately) but I've never been there, and I didn't ask her specifically if she was going to pick me up....I just figured since she invited me to this event, she would swing by and get me.  Well, here it is almost 7:30pm and she hasn't come by or called (I called her house and no one answered).  So.....I'm now in my "jammie's" watching TV. 

So my question is:   Was I wrong to assume she would pick me up?  And if so, at what point should I have gotten into my car and drove over to her church, after she didn't show up around the 6:30pm hour?  I figured if I went over there, and then she showed up here...well...that would have been a mess.

Thursday Night Update

It's Thursday night and I want to report that I stayed home all day and actually got a little house work done today.  I also found an unused scrapbook, in a closet and used it for all my lovely retirement cards and pictures, etc.  There's still lots of room in it, so I may continue putting all the pictures I've taken over my 25 years of working at the hospital in this scrapbook.

Yesterday (Wednesday) I did make a trip back to Wal Mart and was able to get the black version of the beige sandal type shoes I got last week.  Now, I'm all set for summer.  Next week I'm taking my grand daughter tank top and summer sandal shopping.  She says she needs at least two new tank tops and 1 pair of sandals.   What 14 1/2 year old girl doesn't like to go shopping for new clothes & shoes ?  

For once in a long time it seems I'm hooked on a current TV show.  I still watch re-runs of M*A*S*H, Everybody Loves Raymond and Seinfeld and I love them.  But there aren't many current shows (except for the morning shows like Regis & Kelly, The View and Ellen) that I care for, except.......Deal Or No Deal.  I've decided I love that show !!!  It's so exciting and the people are so overwhelmed with whatever they win (except for the guy who ended up with $75..he was kind of bummed out) .  Anyway, I've discovered it's on the Canadian Channel on a different night than the U.S. network, so I can watch it one more evening each week.

I know most people who read my journal also read Jeannette's Jottings. But if you don't...Jeannette shared some sad news with us today, news of being diagnosed with breast cancer.  I hope everyone will pop over and lend your support and wish her well.   She is a very sweet lady and this has made me so sad all day.  She is one of the first journals I read, when I started journaling in May of 2005.  Blessings to her and her family.

Well, it's almost 11pm and Gabi keeps coming and giving me the "Mom it's time to go to bed look."  So I guess, I'll grab my book and head down the hall.   Until next time.......Linda

Cleaning Poem

I asked the Lord to tell me why my house is such a mess.  He asked if I'd been 'computering', and I had to answer "yes."

He told me to get off my fanny and tidy up the house.  And so I started cleaning up the smudges off my mouse.

I wiped and shined the topside.  That really did the trick...I was just admiring my work...I didn't mean to 'click.'

But click, I did, and oops I found a real absorbing site that I got so way into.  I was into it all night. <<Sigh>>

Nothing's changed except my mouse, it's very, very shiny.  I guess my house will stay a mess...while I sit here on my hiney.

Everything is Coming Up Yellow

I have the regular size daffodils blooming too, but I love these little ones the most.  I have planted them around the outer edges of this old whiskey barrel that holds one of my mom's rose bushes.  Mom passed away in 1987 and we dug up some of the rose bushes when we had to sell their home in 1991. My daughter has several at her house and I just have this one, which is a beautiful Fragrant Cloud (a hybrid tea rose).  My dad used to take small tubing and make name plaques for all her roses and I still have the one he made for this one.  You can barely read the name anymore so I keep it strictly for the sentimental value.

The last few days have been very delightful here in western Washington, warm (up to 60 degrees) dry and just basically pleasant.  But today, we are back to our normal spring weather, it's much cooler and there are intermittent rain showers.   I need to get my work clothes on and do something constructive in this house but I think first, I'll go back to Wal Mart and get a pair of those shoes (like I bought the other day) in black.  I wouldn't want them to sell them all out, leaving me without cute black summer shoes.....and the dusting will wait.   :)

MONDAY EVENING

My gosh here it is after 6pm and it's still light outside.  That must mean Spring (and then Summer) is just around the corner. And we all know Daylight Savings Time begins this coming weekend. So that means if Daylight Savings Time were in effect today, it would be just a little after 7pm and still light.   Because it's "Spring Ahead and Fall Back." Right ????

I left the house about 1pm to run some errands and until I was half way to the mall didn't realize how warm it was. I had a t-shirt on under a sweat shirt and my summer weight jacket on top of that.  Man...it was terrible. It would have killed an ordinary woman.   I guess I was thinking 32 degrees instead of almost 60 degrees.  I got to Wal Mart and it was so warm in there, I finally shed the jacket.  I got the cutest summer shoes at Wal Mart today.  They were just under $15 and come in several colors.  They are from "Earth Spirit."  I have weird feet and have a horrible time getting shoes that feel ok. If I had a dollar for every pair of shoes I've bought and taken back over the years, I'd be a very rich woman.  I've never been able to wear athletic (tennis) shoes because of a very high instep.  I'd like to go to one of those places where they custom make athletic shoe just for you.  But, I'm sure they are very expensive.  I have a friend who goes to Japan to visit relatives every year and she has her athletic shoes made there.  But, I'm not taking a trip to Japan just to get custom made shoes.  When I got home from shopping I opened the front door and let Gabi sit and gaze outside. She likes to "sun" herself too and since the front door is on the west side of my house, she is happy to sit there on the entry way rug and catch some rays.

YOU CAN GET YOURS IN APRIL

It was in today's paper ;  My son-in-law entered the original contest to design the quarter for the State of Washington but didn't win.  However, his design was very close to what they ended up with.  The governor made the final decision and I think she may have chosen components of several designs submitted.   I have been collecting these special edition quarters since they started releasing them in 1999.  The U.S. mint releases 5 per year.  I have them all thru 2006.   Montana's quarter is also being released in 2007.  2008 will be the last year they will be minting them.    "U.S. Mint begins producing WA state quarter THE ASSOCIATED PRESS TACOMA, Wash. -- The U.S. Mint has begun producing the new Washington state quarter, but it will be at least a month before you start seeing the coins in your change. The coins likely won't begin being shipped out until around April 2, said Mike White, a spokesman for the U.S. Mint in Washington, D.C. That's about when the first shipment is expected to arrive at the Seattle branch of the Federal Reserve Bank. From there, the coins will be distributed to commercial banks as they need them to restock their currency. Banks will have to special order the Washington quarters if they want them specifically, rather than just a random assortment of all types of quarters. The U.S. mints in Denver and Philadelphia will stamp out between 500 million and 700 million Washington quarters over the next 10 weeks. The Washington quarter shows a king salmon leaping from the water with Mount Rainier in the background. It is the 42nd state quarter to be minted, following the order of each state's admission to the union. IT'S BEEN A MONTH TODAY

This last month has gone so fast.  And I'm happy to say...I'm actually doing something constructive today.  I'm cleaning my non self cleaning oven.  I hate to do that because the stuff you spray in there smells so bad.  They even have the nerve to put the words "fume free" on the can.  I almost passed out from the smell so how can they say it's fume free.  Apparently, the manufacturers of this stuff have totally lost their sense of smell.  Anyway, it's the type where you spray the cold oven, then wait two hours and then wipe it down with a damp cloth, sponge or paper towels. I did this about 11:30am so my break is almost up. 

I was thrilled to see some retirement $$ in my checking account this morning. I don't think it was as much as I was expecting but maybe it will change next month...do you think that's possible?

I got many wonderful retirement gifts and I'm truly thankful for them all.  But there's one that stands out because I use it every day.  It's pictured above...it's a "Day Clock."   What a great idea for someone who has no set schedule.  My friends Judy and Phil gave it to me...and since they have both retired recently, I'm sure they understand the day by day challenge of keeping up with what day it is.

My son got off work early today so showed up to do a load of laundry.  Right now he's asleep in the recliner.  He has to be to work at 6am, so I'm sure he was up early this morning.   Guys are funny...he washes everything in one load...jeans, underwear, t- shirts...he just throws it all in.  I have all these little piles; dark stuff, towels, light weight permanent press stuff, etc. And then each pile gets dried separately because they all take different heat settings, etc.  He threw everything in the dryer together.  It makes me crazy but I need to remember he's not a little boy anymore.  I need to remember "my place."

Well, I'm going to go finish the oven cleaning.  This is the really icky part...spraying the stuff is nothing.
