What A Waste of Time & Energy

Well, we got over to the Swap Meet about 9:30am...the place was packed !  It was hot, noisy (the booths selling CD's had their music blaring all day & we were right next to one) and very unprofitable!!!      The space cost us $17.00...we sold $13.00 worth of stuff.    And I couldn't even get my camera to work, I don't know what's wrong with it.  It shows the batteries are ok, so I'll have to check it out.  So no pictures.    :(

Oh well, now we know...  It seems to be a place where people come, all dressed up, to visit with their friends, eat and not buy anything.  And I've twisted my knee again today, so poor Bob has had all the loading and unloading of the two vehicles.  I'm barely able to walk, even with the brace on it.

I am going to the doctor in the morning and other than an insurance meeting on Tuesday, I really have no commitments for the next two weeks.  So hopefully I can get some hints from the doctor to make it feel better.

Ok...that's it !  Our big profitable weekend.....or not.       Linda

Car Port Sale

I did just "so-so" on Friday and Saturday.  So since it was officially for Friday and Saturday only...Bob & I have loaded up all the stuff and we're going to drive a few blocks away from the house and set up at the local Swap Meet in an old drive in theater.   (I went there to the movies as a kid, so you know it's been there a long time.)  There won't be very many people here in the park today, because all the signs have been taken down.  Anyway, this ought to be an experience...I haven't been over there to sell stuff since back in the late 1970's when I was still  married.  And have only been there a few times since then, to look for something to buy.  I've lived here for almost 6 years and have only gone over there twice, to look around.

I know last year my neighbor went over there after the sale here and came home with his pocket full of money and his truck nearly empty.  So we'll see what happens.

The two days here have been fun...I met a lot of great people.  My former co-worker from the Oldsmobile dealership (1964-1968) Pat, came over Friday...she sat and visited with me for a couple hours.  We had such a good time...she reads my journal (but never comments) so she saw the new kitchen floor and met Gabi.  Thanks Pat for coming by...it was great to see you! Lunch soon...ok?   And then Saturday, my SIL brought my grand kids over and they were here from about 11am until a little after 5pm.  They walked thru the whole park, checked out all the sales and came back with no treasures...I couldn't believe it.  But it was fun to have them here.  So it's off to the Swap Meet today and I'll let you know how it goes.  I've got my camera with me...I'll try to get some pictures.  Linda

Muddling Along

I'm still muddling along with the sore knee and getting prepared for the weekend carport sale.  I've got a couple more boxes to go thru, then we can start putting stuff out.  After that, Bob will wrap the big blue tarp around the carport, I'll back my car up to it and then tomorrow morning we can be open for business.  My knee doesn't feel as bad as it did last night, I've been wearing a brace on it since my son brought them to me.  My but it's hot out there !!  Right now, (at 5pm)  it's 95* on my porch which is attached to the carport. It seems every year, no matter when they schedule this sale. it's either cold & raining or hotter than blazes.

We went to dinner at the home of Bob's youngest daughter & son-in-law.  They are the ones that had baby Marin Rose on June 21st...and by the way...she's very cute and at 5 weeks is already smiling when you talk to her.  Anyway the SIL is a fireman and Bob's daughter fixed baked potatoes the "firehouse" way.   They wash them, pierce them, put them in the microwave for about 5 minutes, then take them out (carefully, they are hot) run water over  them and then roll them in Johnny's Seasoning Salt and then put them on aluminum foil in a regular oven to finish cooking them.   Oh my gosh they were so good !  The seasoning salt on the outside really adds some flavor (and sodium of course)  So even though it's hot, I'm fixing them for dinner tonight. Along with some left over beef roast and fresh asparagus.  YUMMY !

The tragic search goes in in Minneapolis.  So many people playing the waiting game, not sure of the fate of their loved ones.  God be with them all........

Knee Update

My son, Jim,  just brought two different knee braces to me and Bob called to see if there's anything I need.  I requested a bag of cheap frozen peas to use as an ice bag.  (Wrapped in a towel of course~you don't ever put ice anything directly on bare skin)

Gabi was glad to see Jim.  She crawled all over him.  He's going to be caring for her again, while I'm cruising. So I'm glad she didn't run from him.

Avon Products announced today that actress Reese Wither spoon will be their first Global Ambassador.  I got an Avon Representative email earlier today announcing this appointment.  I think it's great, she's pretty and has such a good personality. In this newly-established role, Ms. Witherspoon will serve as the Honorary Chairman of the Avon Foundation, focusing on breast cancer, domestic violence and emergency relief initiatives, and she will be the spokeswoman for Avon's beauty brands and Sales Representatives.  They have also signed on actress, singer and songwriter Jennifer Hudson, to introduce a new fragrance Imari Seduction.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of those injured and lost in that horrible bridge collapse in Minneapolis, Minnesota.   Right at rush hour, this bridge over the Mississippi River, collapsed.  I'm sure there are a lot of people still waiting to hear from loved ones, who may have commuted across that bridge.

Well, I'm going to go rest a little and then hobble around a little and gather up some goodies to price for my sale.   Until next time, Linda

Well, Now I Did It !

My left knee has been bothering me for a couple weeks...I've been taking Ibuprofen and sort of  babying it , especially at Curves.  Well, this afternoon in cleaning off the carport and moving stuff around, I twisted it real bad.  Now I can barely walk.  Bob came over & helped me finish clearing off the carport and setting up my long tables. And I've sent a text message to my son, asking if he still has a knee brace from when he injured his knee at work.  I'm so upset...I don't need this right now.  I don't even feel like continuing the preparation for the sale but the ads are out and it's too late to cancel them.  I guess for this evening, I'll stay down and then maybe tomorrow it will feel better. Bob will be back tomorrow to help me, also.

It's got to get better in the next 16 days...otherwise I'll have to get a wheel chair for the cruise.  Wouldn't that be special?

And then within a couple weeks after I get home from the cruise, the Puyallup Fair starts...this knee has got to get better !

Out Of Touch For A Few Days

Friday, Saturday and Sunday is the community "approved" annual car port/yard sale.  I've barely started getting stuff together and now here it is almost noon on Wednesday and I'm on my way outside to clean off my carport. It's already nearing 80* so it's going to be hot out there. And there's a big motorcycle out there that belongs to Bob (yes it's for sale too) and he's got it chained to a post so even if it was light enough for me to move, I can't move it and it's in my way. Plus a 5 foot oak vanity with sink, a kitchen sink and a toilet out of the newer house of his youngest daughter & son-in-law. They are also for sale but also in my way.   (And he's at his house working on his sailboat.)

Anyway, unless I take a break from time to time, I'll be unable to visit journals for the next few days.   Wish me well...the money from this sale is either going towards the new kitchen floor or my spending money on the cruise....ok...for my spending money on the cruise.

Lanny, are you packed yet ?  Only 16 more days until we sail "North to Alaska."                     Linda

It's Finished !

Another thing I've been doing and have not mentioned in my journal is getting bids for a new kitchen floor.  I wanted to go with a company that is right down the street from where I grew up.  The son took over from the dad, the company has been in business for like 45 years.  The son came out and measured but never got back to me with his estimate, even after several follow-up phone calls on my part.  So the other day the TV was on and I heard the advertisement for "Empire Today" flooring, etc.  I gave them a call on Friday, Saturday a salesman came out and measured, gave me a good price and this morning a father-son team showed up to put down the flooring I chose.  It looks like tile but is laminate (snap together) squares.  I understand from all the online research I've done, it's practically indestructible.  My kitchen has only one window over the sink, no ceiling light...just indirect light around the edge of the cupboards so with that dark old avocado green floor it was very gloomy in there.  I believe this new light colored floor will make all the difference in the world.  It's already made a difference in my attitude when I look at it.  I'm waiting for Miss Gabi to wake up and come walking out into the kitchen to see if she notices the difference.

The next thing.....new hardware (just the handles) on my kitchen cupboards. What is there is old and all the finish has worn off.   I've purchased one new handle and have it on one cupboard, but I want to look around at other stores and see what they have before I make my final decision.

Hope everyone is have a marvy Monday !!  Until next time.....Linda
