When they told me that I had a teeny tiny cavity under a 20 year old crown, I scheduled the appointment for January, because when it comes to that kind of stuff....I'm the great procrastinator. Well, Monday I got a call from the receptionist and she told me if I wait until January my out of pocket portion will be $50 more because of the deductible for the new year. RATS !!!!!!
So today at 2pm I'll be in the chair, the bottom right side of my mouth all numb (drool), while he removes the older than dirt crown, fixes the little cavity and places a temporary crown in the spot.
Then on December 27th it's back to the office, to have the temporary removed & the new crown put into place.
Meanwhile, the out of pocket cost to me is $350 for this visit. My dental insurance will pay the remainder. My dentist and his staff are top notch, and even though I don't want to go there today, I'm glad they called me and told me I'd be saving some money by getting it done this year.
I know I have some old fillings that need to be replaced before my dental insurance ends in August, and there's going to be a $50 deductible next year....but at least this procedure will be easier on me, financially.
The worst part for me is the numbing...it takes literally hours for it to wear off. My only antidote is a beverage with caffeine to speed up the process of it getting out of my system (aka Dr. Pepper with a straw so it won't dribble down my numb chin).
This morning I've vacuumed, mopped the floors of both bathrooms and cleaned the kitchen tile floor with the special cleaner they provided me. I put the "Christmas card assembling" card table away.....have one package left to take to the Post Office. So I'm closer to being done. I just have Bob's gift's to wrap but I'll be saving those until just before the big day, to see how he behaves this next week and a half.
Happy Thursday.....I'm off to fix a big lunch because I'll still be numb when it's time for dinner. Linda

I know what you mean I have a cavity underneath an old silver filling. My dentist wants to work on it too for $800 well insurance will pay about half. I haven't gone yet. I just don't have the extra cash right now. So I hear you.
Take care, Chrissie
Ahhh I can remember all our patients trying to get their work done before the end of the year. When you get home try to work your jaw...move it around, it helps the novacaine where off faster too.
I dont envy you that trip to the dentist I hate it good luck ,..love Jan xx

I used to be one of those people in the dental chair but now only when I need new dentures. Course at 78 I guess that is better than nothing. Lucille 4364
Oh I hate that dumb feeling! Well, now you don't have to go in Jan to get it done ;)
It's very good of them to let you know like that and save you some money! Not something I would look forward to either though!

Linda hope your appointment goes well ~ which reminds me I have an appointment in January ~ Ally x
Ugh, I don't envy you but it is good you are going to get it in this year. If you have to go through it you might as well save money at the same time.
