With the American dollar and the Canadian dollar pretty much the same now, our Canadian neighbors are coming over the boarder in droves to shop. Everything is much cheaper for them here than it is in Canada. Even cars & trucks, new & used. Well, anyway the malls up in northern Washington state are reporting that their trash cans are full and overflowing with old worn out Canadian shopper's clothes and shoes.
Yup, they wear their oldest outfits over and then purchase new stuff and wear it home. Some have been seen wearing several layers of brand new clothes back across the border. It seems it has something to do with Customs fees on the newly purchased items in shopping bags. But, if they're wearing it, I guess they figure it's no longer new. Hmmmm !

Well that's interesting! Kind of funny but interesting.
I did an entry on the same matter weeks... they also take off the old and leave in the parking lots here. It's disgusting!!! Local malls had to increase staff by 15 at times just to clean the garbage that is being left behind.... be glad they are using the cans there.

I've actually heard of americans doing something similar. But you should she
how crowded that outlet mall is up at Marysville, my Grandson works there, it's crazy busy. Joni
Weird...J
Blame the Canadian Government for this one! They have to get their pound of flesh from their citizens regardless and anything that is purchased in the US of A is subject to GST when it is taken back across the border. This is a Government Sales tax on goods and services, and amounts to quite a bit. I don't blame people really for doing what they are doing. I think it's criminal of our Government to tax this stuff, but they are a bunch of money grubbers!!!

Ps, those that are leaving their stuff behind should be more decent and caring about it though and not just leave it laying about. It should be disposed of properly!

I heard about that on the tv news. That is the reason they do it so they don't have to pay taxes on it. Pretty awful isn't it.
Take care, Chrissie
p.s. I set my DVR for The Note tonight so I can watch it.
This is disgusting. The area where this is happening should be monitored and those people should be fined heavily. Our nation is battling its huge overload of waste on a daily basis, we don't need to be taking in extra garbage from our neighbors. I guess the malls don't want to muddy the water since the people are bringing in revenue along with their trash...once again the mighty dollar rules. Sad.

Donna [nightmaremom] also lives close to the Canadian border, Linda, and she sees the same phenomenon. Down in Buffalo NY, they complain of the piles of litter, in the shape of shoeboxes and clothing wrappers that amass outside malls. The junk is left by Canadian folks, who return home, dressed to the nines.
Never heard anything like that before Linda ~ Ally x
Donna was talking about this the other week ,and the trash it couses ...love Jan xx
