In Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Written in 1915 by Lt Col John McCrae, MD of the Canadian Army

Thanks, Linda, I have a Veterans Poppy on my desk that has been there for a few weeks and I do not know where it came from. Always loved Flanders Field. Suspect my Father use to read that to me when I was a child. Bill

I can remember having to memorize this at school as a child.  It has always stayed with me.  We must never forget the great sacrifice given from all our fallen heros.

Hi Linda,  That brings back memories.  We had to memorize Flanders Fields in school.  Memorizing was always a breeze to me.  Now I can't remember what I cooked yesterday.

I haven't read this in some years, & I'd forgotten the actual content.  (but I do have several poppies in my glove compartment;-)
