There's Nothing Like A Sunday

It was sort of overcast this morning & I didn't know if it was going to rain or not.  So I got the ironing board out & started ironing...I soon tired of that and about noon, I suggested maybe we should go down & see the Tall Ships who are in Tacoma for the weekend.  So we took off.... stopping and getting a late lunch at a Mexican place.   We took the free shuttle bus from the Tacoma Dome down to the waterway where the ships are docked. We didn't buy a boarding pass...just walked along the docks looking at the various ships.  When I post the pictures I took today, I'll go into more detail about the different vessels.  I will say there is a replica of the Nina'  and I was surprised at how small it is.  Those folks that sailed with Christopher Columbus were brave to come across in that little ship...just 68 feet long.  Also on hand is a replica of the 180 foot long HMS Bounty.   Anyway more on that when I'm able to post the pictures.   Meanwhile if you want to see more information on our 2nd Tall Ships visit go to; thenewstribune.com/tallships.  I understand they are looking forward to a return visit in 2011.  So save your pennies and come visit us then.  No, seriously I saw a guy interviewed on a local TV station last night who came up here from L.A. to see them.  He & his family also traveled up here in 2005 during the 1st Tall Ships visit.

As some of you know, the tickets I won for the fireworks cruise on the steamship Virginia 5, ended up with Monica.  I only had 2 tickets and since there were 4 of us, I knew I couldn't use them.  Plus there was no way to get from the waterfront where Bob's camper was parked to the waterway where the Virginia V was berthed. So Monica and her hubby, Sonny got to go out on this 125 foot steamship.  Please go over to Monica's photo journal and see the start of her 4th of July pictures. http://journals.aol.com/photographybymon/Mamarazzi/.

Well, that's all for now...I did a lot of walking again today & this time Iforgot to put my knee brace on, so my right knee is killing me.   Until next time........Linda

Sounds like you had a nice Sunday.  I'm glad someone got to use the cruise tickets.  It would have been a shame to waste them.

ouch with your knee, Linda!!

I bet the tall ships were so neat to look at; can't wait to see the pictures!! I think I told you (or maybe it was Monica, can't remember) that every year one of the harbors here close to me do a tall ship festival; we went last year and they also had a pirate's theme so there were lots of people dressed up as pirates; that was fun to see

enjoy tomorrow!

I,too, am always amazed when I see the sizes of the ships that they used to use to cross the ocean to the new world.  At the museum of Man and Nature in Winnipeg they have an exact size replica of one of the Hudson's Bay trading ships from a couple of hundred years ago and it is so tiny!  What brave people they must have been!

You got Nina all excited when you wrote there was a replica of her in Tacoma! I saw the Mayflower at Plymouth, it was so small comparedto n boats of today and the sleeping area was just a wooden floor below the upper deck. It must have been awful for the people who travelled across the Atlantic. We complain about flying across in a matter of hours don't we?! I'm glad you had a good day. Jeannette xx

I love to see the Tall Ships...and the Sailors too ;)
I met an Argentine Sailor and alot of time together when they were in Baltimore & New York...we kept in touch for some time after that.  I still remember him and it must be 25 years now.  Sorry, lost my train of thought.  I hate to iron, I put it all on a pile which just seems to get bigger & bigger so I end up taking them to the cleaners.

I went to see the tall ships in the 70's and maybe the eighties in Boston and in Rhode Island.  They were very impressive.  We saw the Nina about 12 years ago in Nashville.  Very tiny!  Brave is right!  Or foolish!

How interesting Linda, I would have really enjoyed the visit to the tall ships.  I agree, I can only wonder how Columbus and the three ships managed to make their epic voyages with those tiny ships, thank goodness they did or history may have been very different.

These ships are so impressive.  Hope you knee feels better. My sister is doing her best to try to tease me to come out there...she might even have some free flier miles so I would not have to pay for a ticket...that's enticement! Lol...take care, Sandi
