Happy Father's Day

My dad in the middle with his brother & sister probably taken about 1921. Their parents both worked for the railroad so this picture was probably taken on the platform of a railroad depot somewhere in eastern Washington. This picture I've posted before but I love it...my dad on July 4, 1942 holding me. This picture was taken in the yard of my maternal grandparents in Sunnyside, WA. A couple days later he left for Camp Shelby, Mississippi and his US Army basic training. He returned from World War II in October 1945.

I want to wish all the dads, step dads, foster dad's and mom's who've been both mom & dad ~ a Happy Father's Day!

I thank God for my dad, Bill Smith.....he was wonderful. He loved the Lord and he loved his family. He was a hard worker, never complaining about the long hours he put in each day. We weren't rich but he always saw to it that we had a comfortable home filled with laughter and love.

I love the first picture of him with his siblings; he has such a great smile on his face! and the one with you and him is precious too, Linda. I said it before, but its amazing that he was gone for that long serving our country; and we think sometimes 18-month deployments now are too long. He seemed like a good man.

enjoy your day Linda

Your dad sounded a wonderful man Linda, the photos are beautiful too. My dad worked long hard hours to raise us, he'd be up at 3am every day and home at 7pm. Sunday was his day off but he still got up at 4am to go shrimping and catching crabs for our tea! How he kept it up all his life I don't know! Dads never seemed to get the praise they deserved in those days did they, they just did it. Jeannette xx

Wonderful post and tribute to your dad Linda. I have experienced working for a very wealthy family this past six years and you know what? Poor people love deeper and with more honesty. Poverty helps families to appreciate each other in really special way that all the money in the world can't buy.
