Thanks to Robin (Yellow Brick Road) for the package that came in the mail today...also the postcard.
My squished penny collection is growing...........And it's really exciting to get pennies from places, I'll probably never get to.
Thanks Robin!

Many Thanks!
Many thanks to Bill of 'Just Plain Bill' for the gift of 5 squished penny's from his recent family vacation. They arrived today...I'm thrilled to add them to my collection. I've decided to use one of my special elongated penny books for the penny's gifted to me and the ones I'm trading with other collectors. Yes, I'm trading. It's really fun to see the penny's from other parts of the country.
Thanks again Bill, you made my day ! Now I have to go out & mow the back yard......

Squished (Elongated) Coins
I've had several emails about squished penny's and quarters, since I posted the picture of the quarter that Betty made for me at Disneyland. Here's the story, complete with locations all over the world of the machines that will do this for you. See Penny Collector at; http://www.pennycollector.com/index.html

Pictures From the Skier and a Surprise in the Mail
Bob was able to get a few hours of skiing in again today. He went to a ski resort called Crystal Mountain up near our beautiful Mt Rainier. I'm just posting a few of the beautiful sights he was able to capture today. Since I don't ski, this is how I get to see the views that he sees from the slopes.
Below is a picture of Mt Rainier. He said it looked like a big ice cream cone from up on top of the ski area.

When I got the mail today there was an envelope from Koda's Betty mixed in amongst the other stuff. I hurried into the house and opened it and was thrilled to see a squished quarter that she got for me during a recent visit to Disneyland. I was so excited !!! My first squished quarter !!!! I have been getting squished penny's for my son in law for several years, and just last year decided to start collecting them myself too. So I have a pretty good collection started from the places we have visited, plus a couple that Robin has sent me from Florida. So I want to take this opportunity to thank Betty for this very special gift. I've already ordered a squished quarter collector's book. Thank you, thank you !!! And Robin thank you again for the two you've sent me.
When I was a kid, I had a whole bunch of elongated penny's ~ but like some of those other treasures from my childhood....they seem to have disappeared.

SQUISHED PENNY'S
Actually they are called "elongated" penny's but I just like saying the word "squish." LOL ! There are also machines for squishing dimes and quarters too but I've never seen them. If you're interested in locations of machines that squish penny's just check out the following web site. It even shows International locations.
The Penny Collector web site will show you all the machines they are aware of.
When we go somewhere, I refer to this list and have even printed them out for the states we have visited. I was really hoping there would be one at Whistler, BC but there wasn't. And since we didn't go clear into Vancouver, BC I wasn't able to get one there.

Hello from Washington
Our weather has been so weird the past week. Some days have been dreary, one morning we woke to snow, and then Friday it was absolutely sunny and beautiful. Today it's dreary and cold again. The temperatures continue to drop to freezing or below almost every night. Friday I wanted to take a drive out to our Point Defiance Park and make a squished penny for Robin's daughter, Gabby. It was a beautiful day and would have loved to visit the entire Zoo & Aquarium but by the time we got there it was almost 3pm and the place closed at 4pm. So seeing the animals, etc will have to wait for another day.

this pagoda style building is on the main road just after you enter the park.
I was happy to get a squished penny for Gabby. I started getting them for my son in law when I found out he had a collection. And now I'm hooked on them, too. I know I had some when I was a kid but of course I have no clue what happened to them. I have a Penny Collector Book that's almost full. And will begin to look for them at yard sales, etc. The one below, I got in Alaska in 2007.
Bob has been talking about going to Sandpoint, Idaho to ski at Scheitzer Mountain but he's been getting some skiing in locally so I don't think we'll be going there at this point. I'd rather wait until the winter weather is over and head east to Yellowstone and maybe even Mt Rushmore. I've never been to either place and think it would be great fun. For now, I'm content to just stay home and get some things done around the house. Although I do wish it would warm up just a little. This coming Monday, I'm hosting another potluck up at the Clubhouse for the gals from my high school graduating class. I'm really looking forward to getting together again. Several are snowbirds and are in Arizona, so they won't be able to attend but we can have another one when they get home in a couple months.
That's about all for now...I hope everyone is having a good weekend. Until next time, Linda
