WISDOM FROM BILL GATES

Thanks to friend Nancy for this one;

Love him or hate him, he sure hits the nail on the head with this! To anyone with kids of any age, here's some advice.

Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world!

Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!

Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping: they called it opportunity.

Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT.  In some schools, they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you "FIND YOURSELF."  Do that on your own time.

Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

If you agree, pass it on.
If you can read this - Thank a teacher!

Two More Postcards

Yesterday and then again today I got postcards in the mail.  The top one from Pennsylvania was sent to me by Krissie at; http://journals.aol.com/fisherkristina/SometimesIThink/

and the second one is from Meg at; http://journals.aol.com/inquestoftruth/InQuestOf/

Thank you both so much for these additions to my post card exchange.              Linda

Carport Sale

It's going real slow here at my carport sale today. I've had maybe 10-12 people here and brought in a whopping $2.55 so far.  But on the flip side...I've been able to get some birthday presents wrapped and ready for the end of next week. Had a nice visit with my son when he stopped by here, earlier. And I've cleaned the kitchen and kept up on Journal alerts. I still may go out and mow the front lawn.  I can do all that from the front of the house and see people if they stop by. I'm only using half of my double carport this year since Barbara made me get rid of so much stuff when she helped me de-clutter a few weeks back.  Bob's truck is parked on the other side...he's in San Diego for a week visiting cousins, so it's a good thing there's not as much stuff.   Hopefully more people will show up Saturday.

I can't believe that a week from right this very minute, I'll be on the deck of Royal Caribbean's "Vision of the Sea"  probably participating in a life boat drill or whatever.  Both Barbara and Lynnette have called me today, they are excited too.  And they've both been on cruises before.  This will be my first.

I still haven't found any black casual, slip on shoes, that I can wear.  I have found some really cute ones with straps over the top of the foot but my instep is so high, I can barely fasten the strap. I have a pair of Skechers sitting over by the front door in a bag right now, that need to be returned for that very reason.

Well, I think I'll go tackle the front lawn and then turn the sprinkler on out there.  It's been several days since I've watered the front. Or maybe I'll make some popcorn.  Until next time...........Linda

Ok, here's my entry.....I'm entering two old pictures, one kind of old and the second one real old (like from 51 years ago).      Linda

P.S.  I'll be answering those questions either Saturday evening or Sunday.  So if there are anymore you'd like to ask, go ahead and do it.

Monday Evening

I'm still taking questions in my entry from the other day; http://journals.aol.com/lsfp1960/LindasWorld/entries/2006/07/30/ok-ill-be-brave-......ask-me-anything/1081       I'll answer all of them this weekend.  Again within AOL's TOS agreement.

The funeral service for the lady that was killed in Seattle Friday afternoon was held today.  Please read the update on this sad event;  http://www.komotv.com/stories/44682.htm

The weather was cooler here in the Pacific Northwest this last weekend and today it was mid-70's with a nice breeze.  It's supposed to warm up a little as the week goes on.   This coming Thurs, Friday, Saturday & Sunday is the annual "approved" carport/yard sale here in the mobile park where I live.  I'm only going to participate on Friday and Saturday.  First of all I've taken a lot of stuff to the local Thrift Store (remember that day Barbara came over and helped me?  She was ruthless) But I've got a couple long tables I can set up and one big round one, so I'll scrounge up a few things, hoping to bolster my cruise "fun money" fund.

Well...dinner's ready so I better get off of here and get it out of the oven and off the stove.  Have a marvy evening.              Linda

Photo Scavenger Hunt #85

The entries for Scavenger Hunt #85 will be due on Sunday, July 30 at 11:00 PM EST.

The subject this week is:  Glass

I love old Anchor Hocking, Pyrex and other types of the glass items.  Some may remember the older Pyrex mixing bowls and little pitchers, etc.  I have a bunch of those, finding them at garage & yard sales is a bonus because they are cheaper there than at an antique shops.  They all had unique designs painted on them.  The green bowls in picture #3 really caught my eye.  I think there were 10 of them and even though they don't match my dishes, I loved the pure green color.  I sold all but two of them on eBay.  I just had to keep the two because I loved the color.               Linda

OK, I'll Be Brave ......Ask Me Anything

Following in the footsteps of Robin and Barb (QueenB)  I'll be brave and open myself up to questions.  I promise to answer as honest as AOL's TOS agreement allows (thanks QueenB for that one).  Just ask your qustions in the comment section or if you wish to remain anonymous you can email your question to me @ lsfp1960@aol.com

Oh boy, I hope I haven't opened up a real can of worms.  Ok...who's going to be the first inquisitive person to respond?   I'll post the answers in a couple days.   Linda
