Just A Reminder....

For those of you in the U.S. don't forget that Saturday night is "Spring Ahead" night.  We set our clocks one hour ahead when we head off to bed. But my reminder is to get new batteries for your smoke detectors while you're out  running your weekend errands. They are at the top of my shopping list.  In the mobile park where I live, an old man lost his life several years ago when his mobile caught on fire from a discarded cigarette.  The local fire department said there were smoke detectors in his place but none of them contained batteries. You hear about that all the time...and it's very sad.  So if you don't remember anything else, dear friends.....remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.   Until next time,  Linda

The Friday 5'er

      Hi guys!!!

It's Friday and it is time for what I call "THE 5'er!"

If you want to play all you do is cut and paste these questions into your journal. (there is no deadline as to when you can do "The 5'er) When you have answered them come back and leave a link in my comment section.  On the following Friday I will have a new set of questions! Have fun!

From: http://journals.aol.com/robinngabster/Thesearethedaysofourlives/entries/1512

LET'S PLAY!!!

1. How do you like your pizza and who do you think has the best pizza?  I personally just like Canadian bacon and pineapple combination.  I don't get pizza very often  & if I do...I just stop where it's convenient.  I have discovered Costco's big square pizza for $7.99.  I get their combo, come home bake it and then cut it up, package and freeze it for future lunches. I can get 9 lunch size packages for eight bucks....good deal.

2. How many journals do you have online and are any of them private?  just the one...I'm afraid if I had anymore...I'd never have time to do anything, especially go to work.

3.  Do you believe in heaven and if so what do you think it will be like? Absolutely, I think it will be likethe Bible says...a place of no more tears & sorrow, a Holy place where we'll see believing loved ones & friends who've gone before us and I think of all the disciples and  Moses, Abraham, Isaac and others, who'll be there....but most of all we'll see Jesus !  Hallelujah !!!

4.  Tell us about one of your bad habits. I don't bite my fingernails but I obviously eat too much or don't exercise enough because I'm too heavy.

5.  Everyone likes a good deal.  What was the last good deal you got?  You know...like buy one get one free kind of thing.  I am an avid reader and I hate to pay full price for a new book.  So I think it's a good deal when I can get a book I want at the Half Price Book Store here in town or get a good deal on one on eBay.  It makes me happy to get a $12.99 book for 3 or 4 dollars plus a couple dollars postage. By the way..I just finished a fantastic 3 book series by Tracie Peterson called "Yukon Quest"  and I got all 3 books on eBay...cheap.

The Memorials Have Started

Last Saturday  I reported on a shooting at a party at a Seattle home.  Six people and the shooter died.  Today the memorial services began for the victims.  Police have still not determined a motive, the shooter, a 28 year old also killed himself.  It's truly a sad event.  The youngest victim was only 14 years old. What a waste of precious young lives.

http://www.komotv.com/stories/42698.htm

As  parents we always worry when our kids are out of our sight. But yet, becoming independent is a natural part of growing up.  We can't keep them under our wing forever. I'm glad my kids are adults....even when they were teenagers...I worried but I don't think there was as much peer pressure to live on the "wild side" as there is today.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of all the young people who were involved in this tragedy last weekend.

Weekend Assignment #105: Poetry in Motion

Weekend Assignment #105: Poetry in Motion from;

http://journals.aol.com/johnmscalzi/bytheway/entries/5723

I can't really say this is my favorite poem, but it's memorable in that I researched and learned it in a high school literature class, about 45  years ago.  Walt Whitman wrote this poem on the occasion of the death of Abraham Lincoln, in 1865.

Walt Whitman (1819–1892).  Leaves of Grass.  1900.

                          O Captain! My Captain!

O CAPTAIN! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;  The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won;   The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,   While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:       But O heart! heart! heart!                 O the bleeding drops of red,           Where on the deck my Captain lies,             Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;   Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills;    For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding;   For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;       Here Captain! dear father!         This arm beneath your head;           It is some dream that on the deck,              You’ve fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still;   My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will;   The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done;   From fearful trip, the victor ship, comes in with object won;        Exult, O shores, and ring, O bells!         But I, with mournful tread,           Walk the deck my Captain lies,             Fallen cold and dead.

Monday Morning Question

Its Monday (already). Time for the Monday Morning Question:

From-http://journals.aol.com/lv2trnscrb/Ofmini-pawsandmenopause/entries/361

In "honor" of April Fool's Day coming up this week, what was the best April Fool's joke played on you or that you played on someone else?

You can either answer in the comment section below or in your journal and leave a link in the comment section.

Have Fun!

I can't remember what I did for my kids on April Fool's Day, but I remember my experience as a kid.  You would have had to know my mom, pretty much a no-nonsense person, to appreciate my surprise one April Fools Day.   She always packed my lunch for school and I remember this one year (I was probably in 6th or 7th grade) She put piece of cardboard in my sandwiches.  No other filling, just butter and cardboard.  Of course I was busy chatting away and didn't notice until I took a bite. Fortunately she had also put a dollar in my lunch bag so I could get a school lunch.  That may have been the most surprising part...she rarely let me get a school lunch...to her it was a silly extravagance.

Have a wonderful Monday....Linda

Prayer Request for Families In Seattle

There was a horrible shooting in Seattle early this morning.  Six people were found dead in the house and one person transported to the hospital has now died, two others are in critical condition.    Because of the on going investigation, the victim's names have not been released causing concern and worry for the families of the young people who may have been there at a party. So many loved ones and friends will be changed forever by this senseless act. Also, the shooter killed himself after the execution style killing of the others.  Here's a link to the story from Seattle's KOMO TV ;

http://www.komotv.com/stories/42603.htm

Also, I just heard that my long time favorite real country singing star, 76 year old Buck Owens has passed away at his California home.  I actually saw him in person several times as a young country music fan, here in the area where I live.  As far as I'm concerned he sang real old time country music.  I also enjoyed him and Roy Clark on that old TV show "Hee Haw" for many years.

I've got most of my duties done today...I feel good about getting a lot accomplished.  I still need to vacuum and look thru the accumulation of mail on my dining room table but that's about all that's left.     I did get a call from my grade school & high school friend Judi today.  She's a dental hygenist and has lived in the San Diego area for 40 years (although she says when she retire's in a couple years, she's coming home to the Pacific Northwest). Anyway, she's going on the Alaska Cruise in August and she said that she was thinking about it all week and just had to call me and see if I was excited as she is...we had a nice chat and I assured her that "yes I was excited"  and every day I think to myself ...."is it August yet?"    I hope everyone had a good Saturday, the weather was pleasant here today, not real warm but sunny.  The weatherman tells that rain is on the way again...oh well..it's spring, right?    Until next time,   Linda

Saturday Morning

I just wanted to take a few moments to wish everyone a good weekend.  I have so much to do today, so must get busy here soon.  I was also off yesterday and went grocery shopping, and then had a follow-up doctors appointment for the bursitis in my right hip.  The doctor gave me a cortisone shot 3 weeks ago (oh my gosh those things hurt!!!!) and even tho it's much better...it's still not 100%. So he decided today to give me another injection not only in the bursa but in the tendon around it. That injection was a snap compared to the one 3 weeks ago.... but by last night......oh ouch !!, the injection site is soooooo sore, it hurts even  to walk.  (And I've got all this stuff to do today )  He told me to ice it, which I've been doing but I think some Tylenol is in order today as well.  After the doctor I went to a movie at this  little community theater, "THE GRAND CINEMA."  Doesn't that sound, well....grand?  It's a little tiny theater tucked in between othe businesses in the center of town.  They rarely show all the big films that come out world wide. In fact the last movie I saw there was "March of the Penguins" before it got so big.  Anyway today, I saw "The World's Fastest Indian" starring Sir Anthony Hopkins.  It was about Burt Munro, a lovable character from a small New Zealand town, that has a zest for life and a love of his vintage motorcycle, a bright red 1920 Indian model.  It tells of his struggles to realize his life dream to take his beloved motorcycle to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, ti see if he could break a speed record.  It takes place in the 1960's and I'm sure I caught a glimpse of the 1954 Chevrolet I drove in the 60's. Anyway, it's a great film and if you happen to see that it has come to your town..I highly recommend it.

Well, dear friends..I must get busy here before the whole day slips away and I'm found.... still in my nightgown at dinner time.    Have a wonderful weekend......Linda

"Why God Made Moms"

Thanks to a long time friend Nancy for the following email;

Why God made moms...answers given by elementary school age children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?

1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.

2. Mostly to clean the house

3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?

1. He used dirt, just like the rest of us.

2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of string.

3. God made my mom just the same he made me.  He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?

1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.

2. They had to get their start from men's bones.  Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?

1. We're related.

2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's mom like me.

What kind of little girl was your mom?

1. My mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.

2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossey.

3. They say she used to be nice.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?

1. His last name.

2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?

3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?

1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world.  And my mom eats a lot.

2. She got too old to do anything else with him.

3. My grandma says that mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?

1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to, because dad's such a goof ball.

2. Mom..you can tell by room inspection.  She see the stuff under the bed.

3. I guess mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between mons and dads?

1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.

2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.

3. Dads are taller & stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.

4. Moms have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?

1.Mothers don't do spare time.

2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?

1. On the inside she's already perfect.  Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.

2. Diet...you know..her hair.  I'd diet, maybe blue.

If  you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?

1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean.  I'd get rid of that.

2. I'd make my mom smarter.  Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.

3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on her back.

Thanks Nancy...I'm sure all the moms out there have heard at least one of these remarks from their children at one time or another.

Welcome home Jeannette !!   Until next time,  Linda

John's Monday Photo Shoot

Your Monday Photo Shoot: Signs of Spring

Today is first day of Spring -- happy Spring! -- so let's get things rolling on this new season:

Your Monday Photo Shoot: Snap a shot of something that lets you know Spring has come around. From; http://journals.aol.com/johnmscalzi/bytheway/entries/5667

Also as a reminder: Although it's called the "Monday Photo Shoot," remember that you can also post pictures on Tuesday, Wednesday or even Thursday. So take your time to get a good shot!

My entry for John's  Monday Photo shoot is a picture I took a few weeks ago when we took a drive over to Seattle's Pike Place Market.  The fresh flower stalls were full and overflowing with local daffodils.  They grow acres and acres of them here in the Pacific Northwest.

They are not only beautiful but some varieties are very fragrant.   Linda

Gas Station Shock !

Wow...I stopped and got gas on the way home from work today.  It has really jumped up in price since I filled up last time.  Today it was $2.40 a gallon for regular unleaded.  Cost me almost $28.00 to fill the tank.  I'm glad I don't do a lot of driving...just to work and back and sometimes run a few errands close to home on my days off and then church on Sundays.  I actually stop at the store sometimes on the way home from work, so I don't have to make an extra trip out.  I feel sorry for these people that have long commutes to work...I'm sure there will be a rise in van pools and bus riders if the prices keep rising.  Unfortunately, from where I live it would take me about an hour & a half to get to work, 9 miles from my house, if I rode the bus.  If it would pick me up at my house & take me right to the office door...I'd ride it in a heartbeat. But, I think I figured out one time, I'd have to transfer 3 times, with about a 4 block walk just to get to the 1st bus.  (It was easier to get to Seattle on Saturday.)  Anyway..we can only hope that the prices level out soon or no one will be able to afford to take any road trips this summer.

It was sunny and 55 degrees for the first day of Spring here in my area...but guess what?  The weather guy said there's a storm out in the Pacific Ocean heading our way...rain, rain & wind, wind.     Like the song say's "March went out like a lion, a whipping up the water in the Bay, April cried and stepped aside and along came pretty little May."  So I guess this is the way it will be until May.....until next time,  Linda

Last Day of Winter - Ya Right !?!

I have to admit, the last day of winter finds a lot of sunshine here in my area but it's still cold (34 degrees) out there this morning.  I think the last day/first day thing are merely dates on the calendar to keep us from going crazy when the weather is getting to us.  With the first day of spring, the weather from now until the first day of summer should  typically should be 50- 60 degrees, with sun and occasional rain showers. No more snow, hail and temperatures under 50 degrees.  We all know that won't happen, unless you live in the southern U.S., Mexico, South America...will you know what I mean.

Since it's Sunday I wanted to share these Christian One-Liners I received in an email from a former co-worker, Debra.  Enjoy and have a good last day of winter (LOL).

1.."Don't let your worries get the best of you, remember, Moses started out as a basket case."

2..It is easier to preach ten sermons than it is to live one.

3..The good Lord didn't create anything without a purpose, but mosquitoes come close.

4..Opportunity may knock once, but temptation bangs on your front door forever.

5..When you get to your wit's end, you'll find God lives there.

 6..Peace starts with a smile.

7..Coincidence is when God chooses to remain anonymous.

8..God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

9..He, who angers you, controls you.

10..God promises a safe landing, not a calm passage.

Baby Shower

I went to a baby shower today for my cousin's daughter.  It was in Seattle and I don't drive in Seattle and Bob wasn't around to drive me so I took the bus.  It was quite an adventure but at the same time worked out very well.  It cost me $3.00 each way, took about an hour each way  and I had no traffic or parking hassels.  The shower was fun and it was good to see these 2nd cousins of mine.  My cousin lives in Utah and had knee surgery recently so she couldn't be there... her three girls were thrilled that someone from the family was there.  The honored guest and her twin sister actually live in Wenatchee (eastern Washington) and the other sister lives in Carson City, Nevada but she, her husband and two children drove up so she could come today.  So the three of them drove over the mountain this morning,  I figured the least I could do is get myself there even if it was on the bus.  Janel knows she and her husband Matt are having a girl, the end of April and since her sisters each have 2 children, she is thrilled that they are finally going to have a little one.   The Raggedy Ann doll was hand made and sent by their Aunt Susie (also my cousin) who lives down in the Sacramento,California area.

I got to a certain point in Seattle and had to transfer to a bus going in another direction.  That second bus stopped right across the street from the Paramount Theater, where "Joseph and the Amazing Dream Coat" is playing.  I thought to myself, hmmmm, I could come to a matinee with hardly no fuss at all.  I have to check into that.

It's still somewhat cold here in the Pacific Northwest but the sun has been shinning today, so that's good.  In some areas up north east of Seattle they had snow this morning.....the first day of Spring is Monday, right?   That's what I thought.

Have a good rest of your weekend, until next time, Linda

March 17, 1915

On March 17, 1915 a little red headed girl came into this world, actually it was in Westphalia, Kansas.  Her name, Edythe Irene Stern.  She joined an older sister Doris and a brother Clarence and of course her mom and dad and a large extended family.  Her father was a farmer who along with his brothers were fighting the extreme Kansas weather.  One of his brothers traveled out to Washington and found a lovely area south of Yakima in eastern Washington.  The little town was called Sunnyside.  Edythe's uncle came back to Kansas with tales of inexpensive, rich farm land.  So the whole family including Edythe's paternal grandparents packed up  lock, stock & barrel and boarded a train for eastern Washington and a new life.  Edythe was five years old when they moved to Washington.  After they arrived in Washington  another baby girl, Ermine was born.  The entire family settled in an area just outside the city limits of Sunnyside to farm the land.  They all had large gardens, chickens, milk cows and the primary crop that was raised was hops.  Edythe remembered in the summer many extra men for meals, men that traveled from farm to farm helping the different farmers gather their crops.  She and her sisters learned at an early age to help their mother preparing and serving meals for the farm workers. Of course her brother, Clarence was taught to help with the crops.  All the kids went to the local schools and they were encouraged by their parents to get a good education.  Their mother did not want her daughters to have to do the hard manual labor of being a farmers wife, like she had been.  Edythe graduated from Sunnyside high school in 1933.  She continued to work on the farm for another year or so because her older sister Doris was still in college and Edythe could not continue her education until Doris graduated from college and began teaching, so she could help finance Edythe's continuing education.  Their brother Clarence also attended college for a year but even tho he was a brillant student,  he decided school was not for him.  He continued to work on the farm until he got a job on the railroad.  Finally Edythe was able to move into Yakima and start her nurses training at St Elizabeth's Hospital.  She had various jobs to help pay her way...her sister Doris helped out as much as she could as their parents had no money to spare for Edythe's schooling.  At one point Edythe  lived with a family who had a housefull of kids, she was like a "mother's helper" all the while attending classes and doing her home work.  The last year she was in nurses training, she was able to move into the nursing student dormitory at the hospital.  Her room mate was a lovely brunette from Ellensburg (just a little north of Yakima) named Ruberta Smith.  They got along great and became as close as sisters.  Ruberta didn't have a sister, just two brothers so she welcomed this new relationship with this red headed farm girl.  When they had time off  Edythe would take Ruberta home with her and she was welcomed with open arms by the Stern family.  Meanwhile, one of Ruberta's brothers would come to visit her from time to time.  Bill was her oldest brother and he soon discovered that his sister's room mate was a sweet and pretty gal so the visits became more frequent. They began to date...which at times was difficult because he worked for the Milwaukee Railroad was constanly being moved around from location to location.  Edythe and Ruberta graduated as registered nurses on September 29, 1936.  They both went to work at St Elizabeth's hospital.  Ruberta meet her future husband while working there and Edythe continued her long distance relationship with Ruberta's brother, Bill. On October 8, 1939 Edythe and Bill were married at her parents home in Sunnyside. She quit her job at the hospital because Bill's job sent them to many remote places. He was later transferred to western Washington and they set up housekeeping.  In January 1942, they had their first child, a girl......me.  Yes, Edythe was my mother.  She was a dear woman.  She was a devout Christian woman, she worked hard to make our home a warm and loving place. She loved giving of herself...she was active at church, she worked in the church nursery for the Sunday night service for like 15 years...every Sunday night she was there. When someone was ill, had a new baby or there was a death in the family she was the first one there with a meal for the family.  She sent hundreds of birthday cards and notes, to her family members, church friends and missionaries.  She was a wonderful mother, a loving wife and a fantastic grandmother.  Every year she had a huge garden, canned vegetables, fruit and anything else that could be put in a jar.  She was a good cook and homemaker.   She passed away on October 8, 1987 (their 48th wedding anniversary) and there's not a day goes by that I don't think of my mom.  Every St Patricks Day, when others are worried about wearing green so they won't be pinched, or they are out drinking green beer and acting stupid...I remember that it's the birthday of the most important woman in my life.  She would have been 91 this year...she would have been thrilled to know  her 6 great-grandkids...ranging in age from almost 15 years old to a little one about 10 months old.  She would be thrilled to know that her 5 grandkids are all mature, contributing adults and that all of them love the Lord and have Christian homes like she and Bill did.  Until we meet again mom...I love and miss you.  Linda

Happy St Patrick's Day

Thanks to my old high school friend Judy down in Arizona for this one;

An Irishman who had a little too much to drink is driving home from the city one night and of course his car is weaving violently all over the road.   A cop pulls him over.  "So," says the cop to the driver, "where have ya been?"   "Why, I've been to the pub of course," slurs the drunk.  "Well," says the cop, "it looks like you've had quite a few to drink this evening."  "I did all right," the drunk says with a smile.  "Did you know," says the cop, standing straight and folding his arms across his chest,  "that a few intersections back, your wife fell out of your car?"  "Oh, thank heavens," sighs the drunk.  "For a minute there, I thought I'd gone deaf."

Ok that's all for tonight....have a good Thursday.   Until next time,  Linda

Monday Morning Question

In Honor of Krissy from Sometimes I Think who started this Monday Morning Question and whose birthday it is today, here's the Monday morning question from: http://journals.aol.com/lv2trnscrb/Ofmini-pawsandmenopause/entries/347

Question: What is your favorite kind of birthday cake? And on your birthday, is there just one candle representing all your years or one candle placed for each year?

You can answer in the comment section below or in your journal with a link to the entry in the comment section below.

Thanks for playing :)

When my mother was still alive she would always make my very favorite cake;  angel food with a chocolate fudge frosting.  Yum , yum !  After she passed away, my family discovered (and me too) Costco cakes.  So any cake from Costco is yummy.  However, the last four years there have been no birthday cakes, so I just buy one of those little boxed square cakes at the grocery store for $1.99 and call it good.  Sometimes it's carrot cake, sometimes white and sometimes devils food.  Cake is cake and I love it all.  As for the candles.....if all the needed candles were put on my birthday cake,  all smoke detectors within a mile radius of my house would go off.   One of those numbered candles would be nice or the one that's question mark would be perfect.

Sunday Message-Get Over It

The pastor at my church has been doing a series from the book of Joshua in the old testament.  This morning he was speaking from Joshua Chapter 8.  It was such a blessing to me, that I wanted to share just a few points with you.  First of all consider what Henry Ford once said;   "A mistake is an opportunity to begin again, more intelligently."

Some of the points the pastor made this morning are as follows;

Successful living is learning how to get over failure.

A victorious Christian life, is a series of new beginnings.

God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

Look for great victories after failure.

After failure God will give you;  a new start,a new strategy, new successes and a new steadfastness.

I was so blessed to be reminded that no matter how many times I fail....I can always leave my failure behind and start over.  God is so good !!

It's a beautiful sunny day here, however it's kind of cold out there.  But, I'm going to bundle up and for 1 hour go out with my hand pruners and prune back all my lavendar bushes and some other shurbs that are out of control.  The weather guy said on this mornings' news that we can expect rain most of this next week.  So this is a good chance to get a little work done out there.   Then it's back into the house and finish my sewing project, do some ironing and get ready for WORK  in the morning.

I'm going to be doing a very special entry on Friday, March 17th and it has nothing to do with St Patrick's Day.  So I need to start preparing for that too.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend.  Until next time.......Linda

P.S.  KRISSY.......Happy Birthday to you on Monday !!!

Beware !!

Beware of this scam !!

Probably more than most, I dislike people who forward too many warnings, but this one is important !! Send this warning to everyone on your e-mail list.

If someone comes to your front door saying they are conducting a survey on deer ticks and asks you to take your clothes off and dance around to shake off the ticks, DO NOT DO IT !!!!

IT IS A SCAM, they only want to see you naked !

Where In the World ?????

Where in the world can you experience (in one day)  sunshine, rain, thunder, lightening, hail (the size of marbles), wind and snow ???  Why right here in western Washington, that's where. Right now as I'm writing this entry, downtown Seattle is getting snow.  What a day !! I'm glad I didn't have to go to work today.  I did go out around noon and run errands but seemed to always miss the precipitation.  I was in and out of the car but never got a drop of rain or snow or hail on me.  But I saw it all...it was truly amazing. Then when I pulled in my driveway and saw the primroses and daffodils blooming in my yard....I knew once again that soon this will be over and spring then summer is just around the corner. I hope everyone had a wonderful Friday. The weekend is here and I've got some sewing to do, so tonight I'll be getting out my sewing machine and putting a movie in and get started.  Until later......Linda

Thursday Evening-The Cracked Pot

I drove in falling snow all the way to work this morning (approximately 9 miles) and it was sticking to parked cars and the grass but not on the streets.  Then several times through out the day there would be flurries of snow but by the time I left work this afternoon (3:45pm) the sun was shining, however it was still very cold and the wind was blowing. In a way it was kind of nice to see those big fluffy (non-stick) flakes.  The daffodils are blooming...so I know in just a few short weeks spring will be here and the snow will be far behind us.

I was going thru a stack of papers that have piled up here on my computer desk.  I found the following email that I got back in November.  I can't remember if I shared it with you all then but I'm going to now.  Enjoy.....Linda

                          The Cracked Pot

An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried across her neck.   One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.   At the end of a long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.  For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of water.  Of course the perfect pot was proud of it's accomplishments.  But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of it's own imperfections, and miserable that it could only do half of what it was made to do.   After 2 years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke to the woman one day by the stream.  "I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house."  The woman smiled, "Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?"  That's because I have aways known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them.  For 2 years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table.  Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.  Each of us has our own unique flaw.  But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very intersting and rewarding.  You've just got to take each person for what they are and look for the good in them.  To all my crack pot friends, have a great day and remember to smell the flowers, on your side of the path.

They Said It Would Happen But Everyone Said "No Way"

Wednesday brought cold tempatures, wind and rain to Western Washington (again). I kept running aroumd here Wednesday evening trying to get things done, thinking the power would probably go out again. The floating bridge over Lake Washington (Seattle) was closed due to heavy wind and the wind, heavy snow and avalanche danger closed a couple of mountain passes.  Another one was requiring chains on all vehicles. My friend Dianne & her hubby are heading down into Central Oregon today to celebrate her birthday with her son & his family.  They have a couple mountain passes to cross so hopefully things will clear up a little for them as they head out this morning.   For several days the weather people predictated "snow Wednesday night thru Thursday." For some reason, this time I believed them, maybe because I watched the temps drop, especially Wednesday.  So here we are...it's Thrusday morning and I get up....open the front door to retrive the news paper off my porch and sure enough...it's snowing.  I wonder what all those "nay sayers" at work will have to say for themselves this morning.  (If they show up that is)  My Toyota Rav 4 has anytime 4-wheel drive so I'm going for it. I wish you sunny skies on your Thursday.......Linda

A.A.A.D.D.

Thanks to my old, old (but younger than me) friend Lynnette for this one.  Enjoy.....Linda

Recently, I was diagnosed with A.A.A.D.D.-Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decided to water my garden.

As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs to be washed.

As I start towards the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I  take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only 1 check left.

My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over.  I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye-they need to be watered.

I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote.  Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when I go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So I set  the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:

the car isn't washed.... the bills aren't paid.....there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter.....the flowers don't have enough water.....there is still only 1 check in my check book......I can't find the remote......I can't find my glasses......and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really, really  tired.

I realize this is a serious problem and I'll try to get some help for it but first I'll check my email..............

Monday Morning Question

Its Monday; time for the Monday morning question. From; http://journals.aol.com/lv2trnscrb/Ofmini-pawsandmenopause/entries/337

Question: What is your ancestry?

You can either answer the questions in your journal and leave a link in the comment section below or answer in the comment section below.

Thanks for playing :)

Doing the genealogy thing brought me one surprise in this regard.  I always knew about my  German and English background but when I started digging I found at least 2 Irish females there also.  Both came from Ireland to the US and married, had children..... etc. etc. etc. and then I came along.   So my answer is; German, English & Irish.  There may be more but that's what I'm aware of now.       Have a good Monday,

Linda in Washington state.
