Royal Caribbean

Since my cruise is less than a month away, I was looking on Royal Caribbean's website tonight.  I am so excitied about this upcoming event and have been going over all the details of my "home away from home" for the week of August 11th thru August 18th.  Here's the description of the ship from Royal Caribbean;

"The multilevel Centrum is the hub of this ship. It's an airy, light-filled atrium with gliding glass elevators, palm trees, panoramic windows, gleaming brass, and chairs and low tables placed in cozy groupings. Most passengers gather here for a pre-dinner cocktail as live music plays in the background. Other popular spots include the convivial Schooner Bar, the elegant champagne bar and the Solarium, a serene, glass-enclosed pool area with a retractable ceiling. The Viking Crown Lounge is a Royal Caribbean signature; floating 11 decks above the ocean, it's an observation point by day and a pulsating dance club at night. There's also a casino and show lounge. Go for a seaside jog on the top deck, spend a few pampering hours at the spa or work out with a view at the ShipShape Fitness Center. The Windjammer Café is a casual alternative to the formal, two-level Aquarius Dining Room."

************************************************

I watched a documentary today on the Discovery Channel about the making of their newest and the biggest cruise ship ever, "Freedom of the Seas."  It was mainly built in Finland but then they had a problem and couldn't put it back in dry dock because the harbor in Finland was iced in.  They loaded all the workers and crew on the ship and headed for Germany, the closest dry dock facility that could accommodate such a big ship.  It was amazing to watch how this huge ship shaped shell became a luxurious floating hotel.   Then when they were finished with it, the ship took it's maiden voyage across the Atlantic to New York.  I believe that ship is in service on the east coast.

Well, that's enough, I'm sorry to go on and on about this cruise business.  I promise I'll try to restrain myself.......until next time Linda & Gabi

If you want to know where the ship is at any given time, look on the Cruisecal website http://www.cruisecal.com/dnn/default.aspx?tabid=353. This site shows the itinerary of a number of cruiseliners and gives access to webcams related to the ship and its position. Have a great time!

Linda, you will love this ship as we have sailed on her twice. Once to Alaska on my first cruise and again on the Hawaii trip. Both times were memorible and we had a blast. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. We just got back from a short trip on the Monarch of the seas for our 20th anniverary. Still trying to regroup hahaha Happy sailing lady. We have to wait until Oct 30th for our next one but that one is a back to back with the Freedom being the last leg.

My husband and I went to Alaska on this ship 5 years ago.  It is fabulous.  You are going to have a wonderful time.  You'll be pampered and won't want to get off at the end of your voyage.
I can't wait to hear all about it!
