GOD BLESS THOSE HOUSEKEEPERS

We got a memo at work the other day saying that September 10-16th is National Environmental Services Week (that's a new fancy term for the housekeeping department at the hospital).  The memo states the following;  Between all the buildings that belong to the our hospital system, the staff clean more than 678,500 square feet on a daily basis.  In the past 12 months they have placed; 56,000 rolls of toilet tissue, 88,000 packages of paper towels and 6,770 cartridges of liquid hand soap.  They have also recycled 339,322 pounds of paper and cardboard in the last year.  They have processed 1,170,000 pounds of trash during the first 6 months of this year..that's over 585 tons!  They also handle more than 7,800 "Do It Now" calls throughout the year.  Members of the department come from over 10 countries across the globe.  These people are really dedicated and in my opinion, not often acknowledged for their hard work.   The next time you go into a hospital and you see one of the housekeeping staff....tell them thanks for a job well done.                 Linda

My mom is currently in the hospital in NM.  I was out there visiting a few weeks ago when she was in the hospital the first time and you are so right.  The housekeeping staff does an excellent job.

You're SO right.  I've been in the hosp several times.  I've been out of the room a couple times when they cleaned it. It always amazes me how they can clean a room so throroughly and so quickly (and many times while you're asleep). I ALWAYS try to remember to thank them.  They are great and caring people.

What a lovely message you have sent out in this entry Linda.I agree, I have done plenty cleaning part time when my family were small to make ends meet.Besides my daily part time jobs inside school hours. It is very hard work too.Not enough praise is given as you say to these hard workers.Maybe now through your entry they may get more.Well done God Bless you.Take care.If Bob is on his travels,I hope he is enjoying!!!! Safe journeys to him.Wherever he travels.

wonderful tribute to them, Linda. They DO work hard. And for often low wages too (comparably). Thanks for honoring them in your journal

I'm in charge of the housekeeping department, along with the portering and catering departments at work so I know what a thankless task it can be! All too often nothing is said in way of thanks but plenty is said if things go wrong! Jeannette xx

I got your journal from Yada Yada Yada.  Hope you don't mind, but I added you to my alerts.   No matter the title I had when I worked, I was for all of us.  They still mention to this day that they will never forget how I was one of them.  (I always will be)
When we had our yacht built last year, I went in to the factory and talked to each department and thanked them.  They almost flipped.
