Friday Evening

Well, after a few days of icky rain and rather cool, windy  weather it was sunny today and quite pleasant.  And...it's supposed to be nice all weekend.  I think I'll be able to get the lawn mowed again.  My front yard is a mess with all the debris from that darn big old cedar tree.  It's easier on my back to run the lawn mower over it and pick it up that way, than to rake it.  Plus I like to keep mowing as long as I can, so I don't go into the winter months with tall grass.

Last night my grand angels spent the night with me.  I took them to dinner at the Spaghetti Factory (yummy) and then to their church youth group and when that was over we came back here...pulled put the hide-a-bed and watched the newest Garfield DVD.  It was very cute.  Garfield is a very cool cat plus he likes lasagna.    This morning, after one of grandma's special breakfasts I took them home.

My friend Barbara came over about noon and we went to lunch at Azteca and then on to The Grand theater to see "Keeping Mum."  It was very enjoyable.  Here's the little write up about it;

"KEEPING MUM stars Rowan Atkinson (aka Mr Bean) as an absent-minded vicar of a rural parish who is so distracted by the pressures of his job that he fails to notice his wife’s (Kristin Scott Thomas) dalliance with her brash golf instructor (Patrick Swayze), his daughter’s parade of new boyfriends, and his young son’s regular trouncing by the school’s bullies. Enter their charming new housekeeper, Grace (Maggie Smith), the answer to the family’s prayers: a sweet, grey-haired old lady with her own distinctive definition of cleaning house. One by one, the family members find that Grace is able to solve their problems, but they don’t realize that her means are leading to a lot of ends and the population of their sleepy hamlet is rapidly diminishing."   It's worth watching if it comes to a theater near you.

After the movie, I introduced Barbara to the Goodwill Outlet store in our town.  She promptly dubbed it the "Goodwill Rack."   I got a matching top and fitted bottom sheet,8 cloth napkins, 1 receiving blanket (for Gabi to lay on at the end of my bed), two books and a Royal Caribbean wine glass (they were $8-$10 on the ship with a fancy drink in them) for a total of $5.78.  Their soft cover books are 25 cents, and the other stuff they weigh and charge $1.29 a pound.  The sheets are pretty and like new, and even tho I could find a matching pillow case, I don't care because I have solid color ones that I can use.     Barb found some Dr Seuss books for her grandson and a copy of "Cane River" for herself.  I have read that book twice and assured her it was very good...for 25 cents even if she doesn't like it..it won't matter.

From the Goodwill we went to Sears so I could pick out some  frames as I need new glasses.  I hate to do that by myself because when I take my glasses off  I can't see...So I wanted her opinion.  My prescription has changed slightly and since Medicare does not pay for glasses (and I'll go on Medicare after January) I figured I'd better get new ones now while I still have insurance to pay for them.

Bob and his oldest daughter Cheryl left Sea-Tac Wednesday morning on their last "flight fling."  They were worried about getting on the plane to New York because the night before when she checked..it was filling up.  But they went out to the airport and there was 1 seat left in First Class (which he let Cheryl have) and several in coach.  They had a 2 hour layover at JFK in New York and then they both got into Business Elite for their flight from New York to Amsterdam (yup he's back in Amsterdam)   I got an email from Cheryl (she was in an internet cafe in Amsterdam) and she said the flight across the pond was very bumpy and being in Business Elite doesn't really matter when it's bumpy on an almost 5,000 mile flight.  The only plus was the 3 or 4 meals and snacks.  She stated that the weather there was 68 degrees and overcast.  They'd only had about 4 hours sleep when she wrote the email but they had taken the train to the central station and were just kind of looking around.  They were going to pick up their rental car today (the 20th) and hopefully be more rested for the start of their touring the country side.  Bob took an empty bag and a big bunch of bubble wrap and promised to bring back more Delft items.  I requested a Delft windmill music box this time.  They are hoping to actually visit the town of Delft, Holland.  I explained to him that those pretty little blue and white pieces would make excellent and unique Christmas gifts for his daughters and grand daughters.  His other 3 daughters flew out Thursday morning to Paris.  Again the last of their discount flying.  They'll all be home the end of next week.

I have a little longer weekend this time..I don't have to be back to work until Tuesday as I work Saturday October 28th.  And I have lots of little projects that I hope to get done plus I have one more movie I want to see this weekend.  Barbara is busy the next couple days but I don't mind going alone.

 I hope everyone has a good weekend...have fun, get some extra rest (oh well if you don't get it this weekend, we'll get it next weekend when we go off that stupid Daylight Savings time, right?) and take time to enjoy your world.

Gabi's sitting over on the couch staring at me...I think she wants to snuggle.   So until next time...................Linda
