The Pictures Have Been Taken Down, The Desk Is Clean.

I've shared this with some of you in past emails but now I'm making a formal, "world wide" announcement.  Thursday, February 1, 2007 is Linda's last day at work.  After 25 years at the health system (this time...I worked there two other times in the 1970's) and almost 46 years of working...I am a tired old lady and beginning Feb 2nd...I'll be retired!  I'm concerned about making ends meet financially but if I have to get a part time job, I will........but it will be at a job that's totally different than what I've done in the past.  No more call centers and no more headsets for sure!  I still can't believe this is happening, but I guess next Monday morning when my alarm doesn't go off...I'll begin to believe it.   My supervisor has organized a retirement party for me, which will be the evening of February 23rd in a local restaurant...if you'd like to attend, let me know and I'll see that your name is added to the list.

I have no great plans for travel, etc. (I know there's not going to be enough money coming in for much of that)  But, I do want to do a good spring cleaning here at my house and do some extensive work in the yard.  And it will be nice  not to have to go to work and be able to see my friends more.  I am blessed with many dear friends and I can't wait to call up this one or that one and say "hey, what cha' doing...lets go get some lunch."

Anyway, that's my news...I will keep you posted as to how I'm doing with this new phase of my life. (I'm sure I'll do just fine.)

Until next time..........Linda

I hope you have a very happy retirement Linda!

I have worked in the Education Office of a large national museum in London for the past 12 years and should have retired in August 2005 when I was 60, I didn't feel ready to retire but did feel the need to 'slow down'!  I asked if I could work just the first half of the week and they agreed! I love every minute of my new working days, I still see my friends and work and also have time to see my four daughters and their children, I consider I'm very lucky at the moment.

Each year I have to decide if I still want to carry one and sometimes, perhaps when we've got snow or very bad weather I think I'll retire when it's my next birthday but then the nice weather comes and I don't want to!

I'm sure you'll soon get used to being a 'lady of leisure' Linda!

Best wishes,  Pat

Congratulations on your retirement!!!  It sounds like you are really looking forward to it, but keeping realistic about what to expect.  I hope it all works out well for you.  I still have 22 years before I can retire.

Linda, this is great, you have earned it and I hope you will enjoy it as I have.
I worked in hospitals for twenty-five years. Twenty of them as CFO. Retired eleven years and eleven months ago. For years I said I think it added ten years to my life but now I am looking forward to another ten.
I highly recommend it to everyone, Bill

Congratulations on your retirement, Linda, methinks you fully deserve it. I hope you'll be able to have some fun - weren't you off on another cruise this summer - and continuing good health. At least no more 'slip-sliding-away' on snowbound streets in the winter.

Hi Linda, congratulations on your retirement! I guess you'll be getting on scrubbing the panelling now! Lol! I'm hoping to be over to check it this summer if all goes well! I just know you're going to have a great time, no more waking up to alarms, I expect Gabi will take over the job of being your wake up call! Have a very happy retirement! You go girl!  I am thinking that you are really going to enjoy your retirement.  It is so nice NOT to have to go to work when you are sick or when the weather is bad.  Now you have options!  And after reading your journal for awhile, I don't think you are going to have any trouble finding wonderful things to do with your time.  Congratulations!

Hey, Linda... congrats on the retirement... I know you are going to enjoy at least the next couple of months... like you said, it may feel like vacation. But ifyou need a part time job, have you considered becoming a substitute teacher? Schools need good substitutes badly. subs don't have to plan lessons... they follow the plan written by teachers. There is training for subs. And you can turn down any offer, work at your own convenience. It's a thought! It's different, you;ll be involved with kids, in the learning process. Bea
