I Need You Opinion

I'm sitting here tonight scratching my head about something that happened/didn't happen this evening.  Here's what happened/didn't happen; earlier in the week an acquaintance of mine called me and invited me to go with her to a Ladies Craft Night at her church this evening.  I checked my calendar, nothing going on so I said "yes, that sounds like fun."  Yesterday I was talking with her again and she asked if I was still planning on going with her tonight.  Again I told her yes and I asked her when it started.  She went and checked and came back to the phone and said it starts at 6:30pm.  So about 5:45pm this evening I changed my clothes, combed my hair, put some fresh lipstick on and finished my dishes while I waited for her to pick me up.   Now I know where her church is located (approximately) but I've never been there, and I didn't ask her specifically if she was going to pick me up....I just figured since she invited me to this event, she would swing by and get me.  Well, here it is almost 7:30pm and she hasn't come by or called (I called her house and no one answered).  So.....I'm now in my "jammie's" watching TV.

So my question is:   Was I wrong to assume she would pick me up?  And if so, at what point should I have gotten into my car and drove over to her church, after she didn't show up around the 6:30pm hour?  I figured if I went over there, and then she showed up here...well...that would have been a mess.

I'm anxious to hear your replies.......Linda

Well, that's too bad, it would have been fun!    My opinion:  Since you'd never been, and you didn't ask directions, I would have thought she'd just assumed you'd be riding with her.    She did, after all invite you....twice......

Since she invited you it would seem like she would be picking you up.

She invited you to go with her..she should have picked you up. or asked if you needed a ride...

Well had you gone with her before and she had picked you up?  I don't know that's a hard one, sounds like something I've been involved in before.  And why didn't she call and ask where you were if she thought you were going to meet here there.  I don't know just enjoy your night in you jammies, eventually she'll call again.  Night, Joni

I think, I too, would have assumed that she was picking you up.  It seems strange to me that she didn't,but then again, to each their own.

The way it works with me, unless the plans specifically include somebody getting picked up, then it is assumed that everybody provides their own transportation.  From what you have said, personally, I would have thought I was taking myself.  However, according to previous comments, it is kind of up in the air and open to speculation.

I would have had to hear the words spoken, such as "Ok, great ... then how about I pick you up at 6:15" .. you know, a definate plan.   If not even a 'time for pickup' was mentioned I couldn't have assumed it ... at least that's the way it works with me and my friends.   Sorry you ended up getting left out of the fun tho!

Linda as she invited you and you did not know where her Church was ~ I would have assumed she would have picked you up ~ or at least she should have said "I'll meet you there" or "I'll pick you up"  Ally x

I probably would have thought I was taking myself unless she'd said she'd definitely pick me up. Sorry you missed the craft night. Have a good weekend! Jeannette xx  http://journals.aol.co.uk/jlocorriere05/Welcometomytravels/

Hi, Linda!    Interesting to see the comments from everyone.  A lot of people would have assumed that your friend would have picked you up.  I have learned one lesson about assumptions.....I try not to make any...it's so easy to get burned unintentionally.   Everyone is different.   I like to drive myself to events unless I get a committment for a pickup or I offer to pick the other person up...in any event I always get the address just in case and look it up before I leave.  I don't have GPS but one day that will be on my cellphone as well.   So don't be mad at your friend but call her and straighten it out for the future...you will probably just laugh about it....and also, maybe something happened unexpectedly that kept her from coming to pick you up...you never know.  She should have made it clear too about the driving...just know to do that in the future with her and you should be fine....:)  Maria
