The long weekend is over

My heart goes out to all of you who have to go back to work Tuesday morning.  Oh I used to hate that day...no more long weekends now, unless you're a civil servant and you get Columbus Day off.  Some get the day after Thanksgiving off but not if you work in retail.  And Christmas is on a Tuesday this year so unless you ask for the 24th off right away...you'll work one day, get Tuesday off and go back the 26th.  Oh I'm so glad I'm retired !

I had a great day today.  I got all the stuff done I wanted to do.  Dropped the bank deposit off, mailed a package & some letters at the Post Office, went to JoAnne Fabrics & then to the 50% sale at the thrift store. There was great sales at JoAnne's too. I got my Christmas gifts for Bob's 5 older grandkids.  I got them all really nice photo albums at JoAnnes.  I got the fat quarters I needed (see picture) and some other odds and ends.  I stopped at Sears (even though the Mall parking lot was jammed) I remained cool & calm...just drove up one lane and then down the next one.  Finally a lady pulled out of a parking spot and I slipped right into it...just a few steps from Sears' front door.  I went to look at some thermal type drapes.  I want to get a one way draw thermal drape to cover my sliding glass door this winter.  It's the old aluminum framed door and there's so much cold air that comes in there.  And since I'm going to be home more this winter, I can't be turning the furnace up all day, to keep from freezing.

School starts here in my area Tuesday and then some on Wednesday.  Except for those districts where the teachers are on strike.  I think there's two that I've heard of.

Labor Day and school starting brings another big event to my corner of the world....the Puyallup Fair starts its 17 day run this coming Friday, September 7th.  (Jeannette, there's still time to get over here.)  Since I'm not working, we can go out next week, on a week day, when all the little angels are in school.  I've already purchased our discount (senior rate) tickets that include a ticket for riding the special shuttle buses out there for only $1.   I've also entered a few contests for tickets to the grandstand shows.  There are several good acts coming this year including;  Clint Black & Kelly Pickler, Reba McEntire, Kenny G, Steve Miller Band, Devo and "Weird Al" Yankovic.  George Lopez was supposed to perform on Sept 15th but I understand he's canceled (I hope he's not ill) and I heard Howie Mandell was taking his place. They also have 5 days of Pro Rodeo but that doesn't really interest me.

We haven't had any rain for so long, it makes me wonder if we'll get the rain during the Fair's run?  It's not fun out there in the rain.   Oh well, there's many days that I can go & I'll just choose a sunny (or non-rain) day. It's not fun out there if it gets too hot either.  I'm not picky or anything.  LOL

Tuesday, I'm going to get my pictures sorted and in my Alaska album.  Someone mentioned using the order they are downloaded on my computer for putting them in order.  So that's what I'll do.  Thanks for that great idea!

Well, it's getting late...it's been a long day.  A lot of it spent here at my computer listing items on eBay.  So I'll say good night.  Until next time.......Linda

P.S. As I was sitting here, I heard what sounded like thunder...I went and looked out the front door and sure enough...it's raining !!  YEAH !!!!  I don't have to water all my hanging baskets & stuff tomorrow.  And everyone has had a nice rain free weekend and are no doubt home safe & sound by now.   God is good!

What will you do with that fabric?

I agree with not having to go to work, yeah..........  It makes me so happy, but I do feel for the people who still do, especially the ones close to retirement.  Now they have to work till they're older than we are.  I'll bet those quarters are for a quilt, am I right?  I'd like to go to the fair this year too, but with the wedding and a trip before, I'm not sure I'll make it.  Even when you're retired there's not enough time.  Joni

Linda, you were kind of rubbing it in a little, I think. It sure is nice when every evening is Friday evening and ever morning is Saturday.
I could do this for ever, Bill

I do agree with putting them in the order as they are on the computer because you did a fabulous job at putting them in order for us :)  Great idea!

Hope you guys get rain real soon.  It's been a while here as well.

If nothing else, you are getting rain.  The noises I am hearing from outside are coming from the dry grass bending and breaking under the breeze.  The breeze is like standing in front of a hair dryer by the way.

I'd have loved to come to the fair Linda but with so much going on in my life at the moment and Andy not well I just couldn't make it this year. I'll get there one day! I'm hardly on the computer lately, I still have to catch up with your cruise pics! We have no more public holidays now till Christmas Day, I think we should have a Thanksgiving Day too, anything for an extra day off work! Enjoy the fair!
