Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie....

I made some this afternoon.  I bought some strawberries the other day and this afternoon I harvested my first crop of rhubarb.  I don't know if I mentioned it or not, but about a month ago I stopped to see one of my  mother's old friends.  She's in her 80's, still has a huge garden and I was admiring her rhubarb.  She had one plant that was sort of off by itself and she promptly went to her shed, got an empty box and dug it up and gave it to me.   I planted it in one of my old recycle bins and have being giving it TLC and it rewarded me by taking off like crazy.  I got almost 3 cups of cut up rhubarb from that one little plant.

I've decided that next year, I'm going to have my own strawberries.  I have so many empty planters around here & I'll just use those for the strawberry plants.  They are expensive to buy at the grocery store and there's no reason why I can't grow my own.  They thrive here in the Pacific Northwest and I know that first hand.  When I was in school, I spent many summers picking strawberries, raspberries and finally green beans. Ohhhhhh, I hated it...it was hot and dirty job and I was always sunburned.  But I guess it was a good character builder.  My dad would always match the money I'd made at the end of the summer, so I guess it was somewhat profitable too.  I was glad when I was 16, had a drivers license and could baby sit in the summer.  That was better than the berry & bean picking.

Earlier today Bob & I went to Wal Mart.  I got some extra pages for the cool photo album I bought on the ship.  They have such a great supply of that type of thing.  The pictures I had printed are a mess.  I can't remember if I mentioned it or not but when I took my memory card to Rite Aid, they were coming out of the machine and the gal working there was just throwing them around and they are all out of sequence. I started to separate them into piles on my ironing board but then needed to iron, so had to pick them all up and I haven't gotten back to that task.   Over 200 pictures to arrange in chronological order...how fun.

It was a very pleasant day here today.  In the middle 70's...just right. I had heard that we were supposed to have rain but I haven't seen any as yet.   I ran the sprinkler in the front yard again for about 3 hours.  We don't pay for water here in the park and they want green lawns, so by golly I water frequently.

Well, it's getting late.  I want to get an early start tomorrow...I have my list of places I need to go, the bank (I know it's closed..I'll drop a deposit in the night deposit thingy), the Post Office (it's closed too but they have those nice automated machines now, where you can mail a package & buy stamps) and then on to JoAnnes for some fat quarters.

So, I'm going down the hall with my book and my kitty, sleep tight.

The pie looks really good.  I picked all those things too, probably with you at one time, seems some of them were on Waller Rd.  Oh yes, I'm glad those days are over.  But actually my oldest son did that also for his first job.  Sounds like the problem with the pics is the one I had when we got back from Italy.  Good luck, JOni

Yummy, I was just thinking of making a pie myself.  I have lemons in the fridge that I need to use.

Linda, rhubarb pie is my favorite. Love strawberries but do not like them with the rhubarb in the pie. I grew rhubarb as a boy years ago and my mother was a good cook. We had a lot of pie and I guess the most use was as stewed rhubarb wieh lot os sgar. Is it true that uncooked or raw rhubabarb is posioness?

Had the same problem with sorting pictures. I used the upload to my computer as a basis for sorting. It was not easy even with that and I only had two hundred.

As far as I am concerned picture albums are too old fashioned for me. If they don't have a TV, DVD or a computer to look at the CD I give them then they will have to do without.

Hmm, I had a nectarine and almond pie last night. Sorry to hear your pics got in such a mess. 200? Bit of a job, Linda. Good luck!

Your pie looks yummy!  I was just talking to a lady about rhubarb the other day.  She had mentioned she was looking for it in the market down here and hadn't been able to find it.  It reminded me of when I was a kid and we picked it out of the garden, washed it off and ate it raw after dipping it in sugar.  Makes my jaws ache thinking of it.  Does it need a freeze to grow?

MMMM, the pie looks tasty!!!  I don't envy you having to go through all the photos and try to put them in order.  How rude some workers are these days.
