Computer Diagnosis~Sad

Well, since I hadn't heard from the computer people, I gave them a call.  They said they called and left a message with someone....maybe they dialed the wrong number.  I didn't get the message.

Anyway, the mother board is dead.  And on my hard drive they have to replace not only the mother board but the processor and ram.  In other words a full upgrade kit= $299

YIKES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Nothing is backed up.   :(

oh no!!! I'm sorry to hear that, Linda; did you have pictures on that you won't be able to retrieve? that's my biggest fear with the computer I use; I download my pictures and then delete them from my camera; I got to make a hard copy of the pictures or put them on a CD because if this crashes, so many memories could potentially be gone

sorry to hear your bad news :(

I don't back up mine either, I lost everything when the other one crashed in the Spring. And I still didn't learn my lesson!
Good luck!

Yikes is right!  Are you going to have it done?  I'm sorry to hear this...we have 3 computers in the garage that are all dead.  :(

Oh that has to hurt that nothing was backed up!  Ouch.

Before you spend any money, I have a computer here you might want to try out.  I don't have a monitor or keyboard for it.  If your interested let me know.  It's yours free if you want to try it out.

Linda, bad for you break. Do ask them if there is any way they/you can possibly retrieve some or all of the files on the drive. I have seen and heard of that being done in other cases.

We all know the value of backing up but most of rarely do it. I obtained an 80 megabit stand alone drive a couple of years ago for less than $100 and do back up everything ever month or six weeks, Of course, soon I have to replace the unit since I am pusing the 80 MB limit.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I would look around for a new Dell desktop without a monitor, I have seen them advertised in the Philly area for less than $400. It seems to have everything that I would require. Bill

Sorry to hear this grim news about your computer.  The same things just happened to ours a few months ago and I ended up getting a new one....I didn't have anything backed up either.  Lesson learned, I bought an external hard drive and have everything backed up now.

Over a month ago my hubby's laptop it the floor and we've been trying to get Office Depot and Toshiba to get it fixed.  We bought the 3 year extended warranty the day we paid that huge bill.  3 days later the computer crashed so Office Depot gave us a new one but for some reason they canceled the extended warranty.  So a year later the computer is damaged and we want service.  Cancel extended warranty BUT THEY KEPT THE MONEY!!

Office Depot and Toshiba dropped the ball and both promise to call make this right but we're into the second month without our laptop!

I am on my old Dell computer that has never crashed :::knock on wood:::  the best $999 dollars I've ever spent.  Never will I own an HP or Toshiba again!
