Caller ID~My Foot !

I recently had Qwest enable Caller ID on my phone again (cancelled it years ago) because I was sick of all the rude unknown phone calls coming in plus wondering who had just hung up as I'm charging around the house looking for the reciever to my cordless phone.

Well, I just got a call...another rude one.  Here's how it went;

Linda; "hello"

Caller; "hello Linda this is Jackie, how are you today?"

Linda; "fine thank you"

Caller; "well the reason I'm calling is I heard you were interested in making some extra money from home."

Linda; "no, no."  (trying to stop her)

Caller; "fine, I heard you the first time, you don't have to keep repeating it, you dumb b____h !

Then she hung up. CLICK!

Ok, so I stand there totally stunned....then walk over to the phone that has the caller ID screen and it says "UNAVAILABLE"     Isn't that special ?  I can't even call this place back and file a complaint.  The only thing I can hope for is that her call was "recorded or monitored for quality assurance."

No wonder this world is such a mess.....

There are some strange people out there and no mistake.
I hope they find out who it is and put a stop to it.

Those a$$holes make their money by volume - The next time, just go along with it, taking every possible minute you can. Later, tell them, there's someone at the door and if you could call them at home later.

They'll probably respond with they're not allowed to give out their home numbers. Ask, 'why, you don't like to be bothered at home?'  Presumably, they'll say yes. The say, "now, you know how I feel," and hang up.

You certainly can get a lot of bs on the phone. I just wish I had the patience to keep them talking as long as possible and then hang up on them. However, I just can't do it:(   Still not getting my alerts and I wonder if everyone else is having problems. Guess I'll just have to keep checking "favorites"............alice

Next time let the caller get into the sales pitch real good and then ask them to hold on a minute and just lay the phone down and go about your business until you hear the sound of the phone off the hook.

ouch!  To bad you didn't play along to get info on the company she was with.. and  a number.. no doubt she is on commission...  and if she thought she had a sale she'd no doubt give it to you.  Lots of places do the unaval because they feel they have a better shot of you picking up.  GRRRRRRRRR

I would of told them you were busy at the moment but would like a name and number so that you can call them back later, then that way you had a company name and number if they will provide it.

We have had problems for years with harassing calls from a crazy family member.  Are you sure you can't block certain calls?  I have Comcast and I now can block ones that say "Unavailable" or sometimes they say "Private Number."  Just by hitting Star 60 and I can put in 12 different numbers.                        Marlene

WOW!  That is crazy and would make me soooooo mad!  You need to go to that website where you put your phone number in saying you don't want sales calls, etc..  I think it is www.donotcalllist"   or just google do  not call list.

I actually had something like this happen to me. I had recently broken up with an ex and he tried calling my home and his name would usually show up, but somehow he managed to get it to say "private caller" so I would answer. How he did, I'll never know, but hopefully the phone calls stop. Good luck.

we have caller ID too; just got it with our recent move, we never had it before; in fact I used to say I didn't need it because I liked getting surprised by who was calling, and believe you me, I've gotten a few surprises over the years

we get a lot of "out of the area" or "unavailable" or "restricted" or "private caller" more than it tells us who is calling; I actually am getting to the opinion of letting it ring to the answering machine since hardly anyone has this number and those that need to get a hold of us have our cell phone numbers

that lady was RUDE!!!!!!! its a shame you can't figure out who it was that called to complain

Those calls ARE traceable, but you'd have to go to Qwest or the police, I think

That was so rude! If I say no when they call me they just rattle on as if they haven't heard. Now if any cold callers ring me I say hold the line and put the phone down on the side till they get fed up waiting and ring off! Jeannette xx

hi linda, how rude and un-nessecary. I used to do tele-sales calls, i lasted a week, i didn't like the nasty replies!! We had a script to say and you HAD to say it. We had had enough of these type of calls so we registered with BT's caller prefence. It means that our number should not be on any cold call lists and if it is we can report them and they get fined, i would imagine that this would take forever, but when we get difficult cold calls we ask for their company details so that we can report them, they usually hang up then! Clive's other trick is to put it by the TV and let them talk to it, they can't make any calls from their phone while it is still on our end...lol oh dear didn't mean to go on sorry!!! hope you don't get any more nasty calls take care mrs t xxx

It's just sickening isn't it.  I sure wish you could track it back and report it as that is uncalled for and very un-professional.  I am sure whoever she worked for would like to know about it and get rid of her rude obnoxious butt!

I have the "unavailables" come through all the time and I never answer them.  I figure if it is legit they will leave a message.  It's amazing to me how rude people are on the phone...that is totally unacceptable she spoke to you like that.  I know with our phone company you can do a *67 and it will trace the number, it is to be used for threatening or harrassing calls and is different than the *69 callback thing.  I would have used that and nailed that company.

I don't answer 'unavailables' or 'restricted' calls.  They are rude and insensitive, and there's really nothing we can do about it, which is even MORE frustrating!!

Get on the National Do Not Call list! We dont even use our home phone anymore...just the cell phones, but I registered them with the do not call list too. She knew she couldnt be traced I bet. Kelly
