I THINK I'M GOING TO BE SICK!

After my computer meltdown last month, I was concerned about my Family Tree Maker and the thousands of names, pictures and information I had documented in the program.

So I bought a thumb drive and transferred it over for safe keeping.  A couple days ago, I was looking for a death date on one of my family members to went into FTM for the information~ it was totally blank.  So I plugged in the thumb drive and it was blank too.  The other information I have on there shows up but nothing from the Family Tree Maker.

I know there are some computer savvy people out there.....does anyone have any ideas.   Oh, I did go back in time and try to restore but this program is still blank.

Any help would be appreciated...........thanks...linda

Sounds like you need a "computer geek", thats what they call themselves around Boston,MA anyway. Its a service by which you call 1-800 geeksquads or something like that and they make an appt. with you to come out to your house and fix whatever you got going on. I think they are reasonable in price although I've never had to use them. I too have a computer guy around the corner who has a business there and he has been the only one I use when I have a problem. He also is the one that built my new hardrive about two years ago and put in all the software I wanted. My suggestion would be to find someone like that and stick with that one person as having different people work on your computer is not a good thing I don't think anyway.
Good Luck and hope you find your FTM.

I am sick FOR you!!  I think Nancy has the right idea. Call the Geek Squad.  It will be worth the investment if they are able to help you find all of your data. You certainly had the right idea to save a backup to that new program and maybe there is just a firewall or something that is keeping it hidden.  GOOD LUCK!!

I am not computer savy enough to help you. But I can understand how upset you are at the thought of losing all that info. I've done family research too and my sisterinlaw has done extensive search. She has always just "burned" to a disk her info so she had a hard copy of what she researched. When it comes to thumb drives I've never used one but when you first did it did it show the transfer going okay? The girls at Magic Smoke might be more knowledgeable try them too...love Sandi

I know how much work must have gone into that.  I sure hope someone can help you figure it out.
