The Moon

Saturday evening at 10:15pm in western Washington

We took a little drive south to Olympia about 7:00pm.  When we came out of the Wal Mart at 8:15pm the moon was bright pink. I'm thinking it may have been the sunset reflecting on it. I had my camera and tried to get a picture of it then but there was just no place I could get an unobstructed view of it.

Linda down in California took some awesome pictures.  My camera is only a 3.2MP so mine aren't as good as hers.   She called it a sturgeon moon and I Googled "sturgeon moon" and sure enough that's what it's called~goes back to the Native Americans who called it that because August was the month that they caught more sturgeons.  September's full moon will be a "harvest moon."  (Reminds me of a song)

Thanks Linda for the idea of "shooting the moon."

Those are really good shots. The moon here in Texas was just about as orange as it could be so I guess it does have something with where you are located. I took a couple of shots at it but my Kodak didn't come close to these pics. Will check out the other link. Thanks:).........alice

Nice pics! I was in the desert the other night and watched a beautiful moonrise. I wanted to take pics but my camera isn't good enough to capture it.
Thanks for sharing these.

Awesome pix Linda.  I'm usually in the house by dark (LOL) but I would love to shoot the moon sometime.  Thanks for sharing.

Actually hubby took the pictures but he used my camera.... my new Canon Power Shot with a 10X optical zoom.... I love the new zoom feature compared to my old camera with a 4X optical zoom... hubby still has a better zoom on his Minolta camera with a 12X optical zoom.... so no telescope...
did you know they have binoculars now that take pictures...
The Sturgeon Moon is also referred to as the red moon.....
and your moon shots are great too, looks also like the sun, the moon is so bright... that's what the moon looked like shining through our bedroom window last night, lol...
Thanks for the mention...
