The Cost of Politics

I still can't believe the people of this state re-elected~for a second term Gov. Christine Gregoire. But they did and today at a special session of our state Legislature she along with others, takes her "Oath of Office." Tonight is the Governor's Inauguration Ball.

On the local TV Noon News they spoke of "across the state" cuts in education because of budget shortfalls, then massive shortages in our local food banks and then the very next piece is about the Governor's Ball tonight that will cost us, the tax payers in Washington, a quarter of a million dollars.

Call me old fashioned, call me silly but there's just something wrong about that.

I voted for a president but, didn't cast a governer vote as I couldn't decide which "evil" was better.

You would think with the economy the way it is, they would say let's make some cut backs on the Governor's Ball and put that money toward education, food banks, etc. I'm with you that it doesn't make sense. It's not just our state. Unfortunately you would hear the same from the others - that doesn't justify it!

I totally agree with you, Linda. That is exactly what I think about the money spent on all the elections. If they just used half of what they spend on their elections to feed the hungry people here in the U.S., there would be a lot less hungry, homeless people.
That is my soapbox, and I stand by it!!! LOL

Linda, wait until Tuesday in DC if you want to see the same thing repeated on a larger scale.
I getting out my basket for the ride.
I fall asleep at night with a vision of my self sitting on the pool deck in the sunshine with a drink and a book.
Stay warm and dry, Bill

Dear Linda, What a beautiful picture to see...as today I have just been griping about our snow, snow, snow.
You sometimes wonder about our world and how crazy it really has become. I just saw the fellow on Larry King who wants $$$ for the kidney he gave his wife who has now divorced him..also the fellow who fakes his own death.
There are times when I cling to the Word because THAT is the only thing that makes sense anymore.

Love and hugs,

Alberta LORI

Linda you are silly and old fashioned. Don't you know how important it is to light the lights, strike up the band and put on expensive ball gowns? It's the American way.

I think you should all dress up in tatters, go to the ball and pan handle.

The rich are rich, the poor are poor and never the twain shall meet.

Yep, everyone keeps saying financial crisis and then our politicians think nothing of hosting multi million dollar events. It's sick & disgusting regardless of who or what office the candidate is in.

Unfortunately, politicians which should never be elected are still being so, hard to understand. I absolutely love your header photo, makes one feel that spring will be here soon, even though it is absolutely freezing here. God bless.
