POSTAGE INCREASE

Yup folks, they're doing it again. Monday (May 11th) our postage rates go up again. This time First Class postage will increase by 2 cents. So what costs you 42 cents to mail today will be 44 cents Monday. But....they say if we go get some of their "Forever Stamps" today...they'll still work after the increase.

The Postal people say that they ended 2008, 3 billion dollars in the red and that could mushroom to 6 billion this year. There's talk of going to a 5 day delivery instead of 6 days. That would be fine with me....they could cut out Saturday home delivery and I don't think it would be a problem. Actually it would be nice to know you could go away for the weekend & not worry about the mail laying in your mailbox. But I do feel the those Post Offices that are now open on Saturday should remain open on Saturday for those who need their services and can't get there during the week.

I try not to complain about our postage rates. From what I've heard.....we have some of the best service and perhaps the lowest rates in the world.

And I understand that people just don't write letters anymore in this new electronic age. For me, I pay all of my bills on line except one~which I have to mail. I still love to send birthday and Christmas cards, so I do that and probably will continue unless the postage goes so high it becomes prohibitive.

So folks, if you can.....get out to the Post Office and get some Forever stamps so at least for awhile you'll have a break from this upcoming postal increase.

I am so sick of paying more for stamps! Like you I only mail a few items at a time, but still.

They could cut my delivery out all together. I get all my bills on line, so my box is filled with nothing but flyers.

Maybe I should leave them a note, please dont leave any flyers. Then I could check my mail once a week or even once a month!

Wow, I hadn't heard rates were going up...that one totally slipped by me! We've been getting automatic delivery of the Forever stamps (remember to whisper 'forever' when you place the stamp on your envelope) for a while now, so we're good.

I'm a big fan of the P.O., and I think they provide amazing service. I've really never had a problem with them. Of course, I'm biased, because Cousin Shane works for the P.O.!

Kelli lied, LOL; she does get something else in her mailbox except for flyers.....I'll have to tease her about that

thanks for the reminder, Linda; I forgot it was going up. I'm heading over to stock up on some of those Forever stamps. Like the majority of us, I pay a lot online, but do send out notes, cards, etc.

I'm with you; we could go down to 5 times a week delivery, but keep the Post Offices opened on Saturday.

enjoy the weekend

I would still have my shop open and would still be happily selling online if they hadn't raised their prices into the ridiculous range. They are their own worst enemy.

I heard that next year it's going up to 50 cents and you get to deliver it yourself.

Seriously, the postal saervice is still the best deal in America. Imagine what life would be like withour it. People who complain about the USPS should stop and think about it. 44 cents will get your important letter from the coast of Alaska to the Florida Keys. I don't mind the flyers. I toss them but I know the postage those people pay helps keep the service afloat. In short, people should shupt up about the post office andit's 44 cents.

If they cut out Saturday's mail, I'd miss the substitute mailman whose only forte is to cram everything into the mailbox regardless of available space.

It's my Saturday amusement as I sometimes stand there and ask him if he had to study cramming before getting the job.

I think he doesn't like me.

I don't know when I've bought a stamp. I just don't mail anything. All my bills are paid on-line and letters are written via email and I send ecards or make tags for cards. I had no idea stamps had gotten so high.

Hmmmm, I guess it's just living out here in nowhere and still relying on the pony express (LOL) but they should pay ME to use the postal service!!

I rarely send anything out by mail and do everything on line.

I think they are out of line and as time goes on they will lose even more customers.
