CABBAGE PATCH DOLLS

Remember back in the 1980's when grown women were ripping each others clothes to get to the Cabbage Patch dolls ?  Well, I didn't do that but when things calmed down I did buy some.  And I still have 3 of cute little round faced darlings.  I only took a picture of my two oldest ones, Jennifer & Josh.   After I got J & J, my kids gave me a baby Cabbage Patch doll one year for Christmas.  His name is Percy and he used to smell like baby powder...I still have him but he has these little spots all over his face ( I guess he got the chicken pox and they never went away).  He actually sits between J & J on a little bench, here in my living room.  I have had other C.P. dolls too, but they are long gone...sold on eBay.  I had a set of blond twin girls, an Asian one, a Hispanic one and an African American one.  When I knew I was going to have to downsize about 6 years ago...I had some difficult choices to make.  I have also given C.P. dolls as gifts.  I remember the boy C.P. doll named Carl I gave my grandson when he was about 4 years old.  I wonder if he still has him ?  I'll have to ask. Personally, I think they are still cute as can be. And when I see them in the store I always stop and look thru the boxes at the different ones available.

Jennifer and Josh are so blessed...they were adopted by me but I saw to it that they also have a God Mother.  Yup, my friend Jan is their God Mother.  You see, back when I first got Jennifer, Jan had just had her first grandchild and everyday at lunch, it was "Cody this and Cody that."  Then out would come the pictures of Cody.   I got so feed up, I made her the official God Mother to J & J and started taking pictures of them in different poses and bringing them to work to pass around the table at lunch.  I didn't have a grandchild until 1991 and I was determined not to be out done by Jan, "the bragging new grandma."  Now, in the year 2006-2007 she has her first great grand child....so far I haven't come up with anything to top that !

She sometimes reads my journal so I'll be interested to see if she has any comments about this issue.   LOL

So do any of you out there still have a Cabbage Patch Doll or two around the house ?  Don't be ashamed...I'm 65 years old and I love mine.  I think they are adorable.

I never got into the CP dolls, my daughter was never much into dolls and lets see 80's, I think maybe my oldest granddaughter may have one, but not from me.  Anyway they are kind of cute.  Now Beany Babies are something else again and I have quite a few.  Joni

My son Joshua, had a C.P. buddy named "Jason Joel".  I think he was 2 years old when he got him.  I am pretty sure he no longer has him, though.   My daughter on the other hand, still has all her Care Bears!  J

I do remember the year they were all the craze.  NOthing would do for my girls but that they each have one from Santa that year.  I managed to get one, a lovely little red head girl with pig tails but could not find another one anywhere for love and money.  We did manage to finally get our hands on one on Christmas Eve.  A friend of ours was shopping and managed to grab one for us, a little African American boy.  My girls were both so happy.  I wonder if they still have them ... I sure would have loved to have one myself.

I remember when they first came on the market, too.  I feel in love immediately.  My daughter was born in June, 1984 when the mad rush to get them was still on.  A friend's husband worked for Matel and she sent Cari one as a birth gift.  I still have that little doll, she has been well played with and is quite worn looking now.  When Cari came home from the hospital, we were invited to a birthday party for a little neighbor girl, Cari was so tiny that none of her baby dresses fit, so she actually wore the Cabbage Patch Kid dress to the birthday party.  LOL  I'll try to find my 'kids' and post a picture.
I buy one for my granddaughter, Megan every year for Christmas.  She loves the baby CP dolls now.
Hugs, Kathy

Yes I have one of those little darlings too.  I too waited until the hubbub was over and bought mine later.  I wasn't about to get into a fight over a doll, no matter how cute they are.  Now I am thinking, I don't know where she is.  Ah geesh, this will bother me now, I have to find her.

I HAVE TO COMMENT ON THIS ONE. I CERTAINLY DO REMEMBER JOSH AND JENNIFER. IT WAS ALWAYS MY SIGNAL TO SHUT UP ABOUT MY GRANDBABIES. MY CODY IS GOING TO BE 25 YEARS OLD IN DECEMBER AND CHASITY WILL BE 24 IN DECEMBER. SHE HAS MY FIRST GREAT GRAND DAUGHTER BORN 9/15/07 AND SHE IS AS PRETTY AS HER MOMMA. I DON'T HAVE AS MANY PICTURES TO PASS AROUND BUT I TOOK HER AND HAD HER PICTURE TAKEN LAST WEEK SO WILL HAVE SOME SOON.  I got a good laugh about Josh and Jennifer too.
