Friday Evening Update

Well, we had another sunny but cold day here in the Pacific Northwest. They keep saying rain is heading our way, but we haven't seen it yet.

I was happy to get a "clean bill of health" at the dermatologists office yesterday.  Last fall he removed a couple little spots of basal cell carcinoma, one from my left arm and another from the top of my right hand.  I also wanted him to check my back and shoulders as I had so many really bad sunburns as a kid, that I've been concerned about those areas too.  But he said everything looks fine.  The office lady very kindly offered to send me a copy of my records, so that once he's retired I'll have them, in case I need to go to another dermatologist one day.     I also went to my regular doctor's office and got my flu shot.  That was a first for me because for years, I've always gotten a flu shot at work.  One of the perks of working for a hospital.  We could just go to Employee Health, sign the form and get the shot.  Done Deal !   No cost to us and no billing our insurance company. But it's a new day, and from now on...the flu shots will come from my doctor's office.

I did have lunch at the cafeteria, but I didn't see anyone I knew, other than one of the cashier's....and Judy wasn't able to meet me there.   Her daughter has been released from the hospital and is doing well, other than missing her little one.  During the week Judy will drive her to the hospital for visits and I imagine on the weekends, "K's" husband will go with her.

I did manage to go to the Health System's Employee Holiday Craft Sale.  I was excited when I found out it was going on and was happy to be in the area when it was going on.  I don't think I've missed one of those for over 20 years.  I didn't buy much but there was a lot of beautiful items available.  There is a lot of talent among the employees and volunteers.

At 1:30 this afternoon I had a dentist appointment.  As it turned out, a very short appointment to do some deep cleaning in a few places on the left side.  She numbed me up and was done quickly.  I was very nervous as I've never had anything like that done before.  The numbness didn't wear off until about 6pm so that was worse than anything.  I learned a long time ago to take a caffeinated soft drink with me, to drink after the dentist was done. Of course since the whole left side of my face was numb, my little can of  Dr Pepper kept dribbling down my chin...what a mess.   It supposedly speeds up your blood flow and helps take away the numbing effect faster.

After the dentist if was off to Fred Meyer for some grocery shopping.  Things keep disappearing around here...the sugar, Coffee Mate, cereal, fresh veggies, T.P....the list goes on and on.  There must be a ghost in this house using up those things or maybe it's Gabi. Anyway, I had quite a list to fill at the store.

Today was sentencing day for Dominic Maldonado, the young man, who in November 2005 shot up the Tacoma Mall......wounding several people, one man was wounded severely and will be in a wheel chair the rest of his life.   Anyway, Maldonado received a sentence of 163 years for the crimes he committed that day. He was convicted Oct. 2 of 15 crimes, including attempted murder, assault and kidnapping. According to the press release on this issue his attorney will be appealing this sentence.  Many of his victims were at the sentencing and were interviewed afterwards.  They are all happy that this person, will never have another chance to terrorize the public like he did on that day two years ago.

Well, journal friends that's all for tonight.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  I have some special plans made for Saturday but will tell you about them at another time.

Until next time,   Linda

Just catching up with you this morning Linda.  We dont' get any halloweeners here, but I do know when we were in chester we did and most of our neighbours were seniors.  I used to feel quite sorry for them , knowing how afraid they can be of strangers and opening the door in the evenings.  Glad you have a clean bill of health!  Good news!  I'm also glad to see that young man get exactly what he deserved.  It's good to see justice being served for a change!

Makes you wonder what mental illness or evil spirit must be in someone who does this sort of thing...So sad...yet we can be thankfull that he can't do it again. Hope you are doing well, take care. Love2U

I hope that young man's appeal goes nowhere.  He deserves the sentence he got.

Congrats on your clean bill of health!  What to go!!  I got my flu shot today at the grocery store.  LOL  Isn't that strange?  $25 in the produce dept.  LOL
Hugs, Kathy

Skin cancer, teeth/dentist problems, you haven't seen anything yet just stick around and remember I told you so.
Took flu shots for years and always got at least one or more bad colds, not sure if they were the flu or not. Last four years I skipped the flu shot and have not had a cold/flu. Do what you think best for you this is just the experience that I had.
Have a nice Sunday and remember you do not have to get up on Monday and go to work.
Take care, Bill

Linda with a face like poor Dom would have to be insane or mentally in balanced to have commtted such a crime.
Where, as a generation, have we failed so bad that our childen are capable of doing such violent, non-caring, etc. acts?
