Chaos In Western Washington & Oregon

Let me say that same conditions are to be found in western Oregon too. There are people there in the same predicament as those here in Washington.

Update:  It's not raining here this morning but the damage is done.  So many houses and businesses flooded and probably ruined for good.  Rescue operations are still going on by local fire departments and the National Guard units.  The governor of Washington has surveyed the damage as well as the Dept of Transportation and other government agencies.  Our main north-south highway (I-5) is still closed with water over the roadway.  54,000 vehicles a day pass thru this area.  And of the 54,000......approximately 10,000 are trucks.  At this point they are having to make a huge detour over mountain passes into eastern Washington and then back along the Columbia River and then north on the good part of I-5 to get goods delivered to the cities south of the flooded area.

Today KOMO TV is calling for donations of non perishable food, bottled water,  baby formula, diapers, toys, cleaning supplies, clothes for babies, kids and adults, blankets....everything people need who have lost everything.  At the Renton Ikea store there are large moving vans waiting to be filled with donations from those in our area to help our neighbors who have lost it all.

The temperatures are dropping again and supposed to be freezing by the weekend.  Hopefully power crews and others can get some services restored before cold weather sets in.  There's 27,000 homes in Grays harbor County (out on the coast) still without power today.

Again today you can see pictures and videos at KOMO TV's web site; http://www.komotv.com/

More later....I've get to get ready to go with my friend Jan to an event this afternoon.  Linda

I too had a flood - and my sump pump stopped working. I have had workers here since Monday trying to rememdy the situation. Finally - I have a new sump pump installed. I just feel blessed when I see the people who have lost their homes and businesses - my damage is minimal compared to all of that.

I caught some of the images on the news early this morning, it is nothing less than tragic.  My heart goes out to the poor folks who have lost everything.  I am so glad though you are okay and came through this nasty storm all right.  Be safe when out travelling.

What a time for a catastrophe. Of course there's no good time for one of those. I
pray for everyone's safety.  Take care of yourself and stay warm and dry.

Hugs, Barb
