Dr Phil

I know a lot of people can't stand Dr Phil and others like him.  No matter how you feel, I'd recommend watching his show today (here in my area his 3pm show repeats at 8pm on a different channel).  His guest today is a lady who came out of the group that's currently under scrutiny for the abuse of up to 400 children living in their compound in Texas. From what I'm hearing, not only on the local and national news but from emails I'm receiving from friends who live in that area....there's some horrible things going on.  Will these precious little children ever be the same after suffering the abuse that's been happening to them from the cradle?  Abuse to us but they are being brainwashed to think this bizarre treatment is normal.  I believe even the mother's have been brainwashed to feel that what's going on with their little ones is not only normal but spiritual.

It is horrible to think that children are being abused that way.  I certainly hope it can be finally stopped at this compound.

Hi Linda...

Its so awful to hear news of abuse towards children. How on earth can people live with themselves who abuse children and what ever posses them to do such a terrible thing...God Bless each and everyone of the children.

Hello Linda,

We have been following this whole issue and praying for these little ones..

It is interesting although the FLDS group are featured in this whole issue....the LDS church although no longer practising Polygomy still have doctine in their faith that in my opinion puts them in a "Cult" category.

I have been asked by people, "Lori, how could these women think like this, or really NOT think"....and this is how I answer..

IF my salvation(and attaining heaven) depended on my husband and THAT is how I had been raised then of course I would end up subjecting myself and my gender to whatever might be required to attain this.

It is only been in recent years that the Black race could be LDS....

No matter what, it is tragic and we have a group in the next Province the same cult and in fact some of those kids are involved in Texas.  (Bountiful BC)

As a believer in Christ we must be so aware of teachings...

Years ago in our church we had a movie called "The God-Makers" and I will tell the story what happened there when a fellow and his wife came at the invitation of one of our deacons....the bottom line was "Bill" said to his friend the deacon IF WHAT WAS shown here is the TRUTH and I embrace it I will lose my wife and children.....
Interestingly this family disappeared to Cardston, AB (home of LDS temple) after that...

I dont think those children will ever recover...we can hope and pray.  I wish some of them could come live with me.

Are the rumors true about Dr. Phil and his wife?

I think the really young ones might have a chance but I don't know about the older kids; that is so sad; I'm thinking the mothers definitely had to be brainwashed too because I'm thinking as a mom I certainly wouldn't have put up with that going on year after year after year

just so sad

As a practicing LDS/Mormon I take offence to the comments posted by one of your visitors to this post.   I can assure you most assuredly we are not a cult and are a very humble and decent bunch of people. We live our lives according to the precepts and example that Christ set for us when He was on the earth. He is the head of our church.  That film the God Makers is a load of crapola.  I have seen it several times and read the book and the man who made it will admit it is full of lies.  His justification for doing it, one to make a lot of money out of people who are only too willing to knock something they don't understand and ignorant themselve, and two, he is an excommunicated former LDS who has an axe to grind.   Further more that group in Texas is in no way related to our present day church and do not resemble it in any way.  Your former commentator is misguided when she says that blacks were not allowed to be LDS until recent years.  They have always been allowed to be LDS.  The men may have not been able to hold the priesthood until about 30 years ago, they were always allowed to be members of our church.  Hmm....weren't most of the slave holders so called Christians?  I think so!  People like your friend abicequeen are misguided, mis informed and ignorant.  I am sorry to have turned this into a diatribe, but such ignorance makes me very angry.  Let me just say I was not always an LDS, I used to be a Baptist, so one cannot accuse me of not having experienced both sides of the coin.  I am in intelligent and aware person, and your friend is full of bunk. Narrow minded people like that give Christians a bad name.  Let me just add that I do believe that what happened in Texas is criminal and disgraceful and I hope that the perpretators are dealt with accordingly.  I feel sorry for the innocent children, and just for the record, I love Dr. Phil.
