Up late ~ so I thought I'd catch up

Well, we started into a heat wave here in western Washington today.  They say we'll hit record breaking temperatures over the weekend.  That means my house will be about 10-15 degrees hotter inside than outside.

I did manage to get the back yard mowed Wednesday afternoon.  It was terribly warm but it really needed it and I know it's not going to get any cooler.

Wednesday evening I took my son out for his birthday dinner.  I had called my brother & sister in law and told them of my plans & invited then to join us if they could.  Jim & I walked into the restaurant and there they were.  Jim got a big smile on his face when he saw them and we had a nice visit over dinner.

After dinner, I decided to go to the local Fred Meyer store to get some gas & a few things needed for the cupboard. If you spend $100 during a month you get 10¢ per gallon discount on your gas the following month.  I always get to at least $100 and usually go over it, so I was able to top off my gas tank for $3.75 a gallon.  Yes, gas has dropped to under $4 a gallon here in my town.  I understand that in Seattle, it's still over $4 a gallon.

I discovered over the weekend (thanks to my darling grand daughter) that the nice new digital camera that I got for 25 years of service at the hospital takes a XD memory card instead of the usual SD card.   Since I really like my old camera, I hadn't even taken the time  (in a year & a half) to check out the "gift" camera.  Until Meghanne mentioned it to me, I had never heard of the XD memory cards~has anyone out there had any experience with them, either in the past or at this time?  Let me know what you think, please.

This month is going to afford me two opportunities to meet two AOL JLand friends.   I got a call the other day from Trees who lives in Canada~she has a journal called the Garden of Friendship.  She's visiting her friend in Oregon and Saturday they are coming up Interstate 5 to visit some cities nearby.  They think they will be coming thru here Saturday morning  around 9 or 10am and we're going to meet for breakfast.

Then on August 30th, I'm going to have lunch with Lori and her husband Chuck who are driving from Alberta to Seattle in order to take an Alaskan cruise.  Lori has a journal, Lori's Letter Box.

I'm looking forward to meeting both of these dear ladies.

Well, my head is starting to droop..I guess I'd better go and see if I can get some sleep...until next time,  Linda

How fun it will be for you to meet some new (old) friends.  Meeting in person is surely a change from the electronic version.  I've done it many times, and many times I've been thrilled with the long time friends I've made.  Have fun! :0) N.

Hi Linda. I don't know what you call a heat wave there but here 80* is a real cool down if the humidity isn't too high. The humidity is the killer here!    The lowest gas prices around here ranges from $3.64 to $3.51. Depends on which town you're in.           I know you will enjoy meeting with the two ladies:)...........alice

Yes here to in Boston, gas prices have dropped to a whopping $3.75 too. Isn't it sad that we think that this is a good price? lol Wonder if we'll ever see the $2 mark ever again? I tend to doubt it. I've never had the opportunity to meet with J-landers before. As for the camera card, my new cannon digital XTI takes the scandisk card. Maybe it is something different for a particular kind of camera you have. When you find out what the XD card is, can ya let us know as now I'm curious, lol ! does it do something different? Enquiring minds want to know, lol
Weather here had also been very good for ducks and people with strong umbrellas! lol We're getting some heat soon they say next week.

so neat you get to meet some fellow J-Landers!! that sounds like lots of fun!!!

I'm glad your brother/SIL were able to join you/your son to help celebrate his special day!! I'm sure a good time was had by one and all!!

surprisingly, for the cheap grade of gas, I'm seeing it at $3.97 here in So. Calif; we'll be one of the last states to get every grade down below $4.00 a gallon

stay as cool as you can and drink plenty of fluids in this heat

How fun that you get to meet some of your faceless on-line friends.  Our gas here in TN is now 3.65 (without a discount).  You guys have been higher than us through this whole ordeal of rising gas prices.  Hmmmm?   Our temps have been pretty nice the last few days.  I'm hoping they stay like this for a good while before fall and winter hit.

I detect a hint of sarcasm in your heatwave description, Linda. Will you be able to leave the ice-scraper in the car in the mornings? Nice you'll be meeting other J-landers face to face.

I think it would be fun to meet fellow J-Landers. I used to go into the Crochet Chat (don't anymore) and we all met at Hershey Park in Pennsylvania one summer.  it WAS fun.

We haven't had really hot temperatures here yet this summer, so that's good.  I am not a person that does really well in heat and humidity!  How wonderful that you are going to be able to meet some online friends!  I have always enjoyed meeting some of mine.  I Hope you have a great time!
