Well, this very interesting movie got many awards at the Oscars tonight. I did see it last Tuesday and it is a good movie. It is however very sad in a way, the horrible poverty and living conditions of India are not glossed over in this movie. I was pleased to hear that they were bringing the cast of young kids that played the two brothers and the girl through the years to America and to the awards ceremony in Los Angeles. These kids were pretty much chosen off the streets of Mumbai for their roles in this movie.
It was good to see their sweet little faces, all scrubbed clean and dressed in fine clothes, on the podium tonight as this wonderful movie won the award for 'Best Movie.'
If you get a chance to... go...see it...you'll be glad you did. And when you leave the theater you'll have a new appreciation for all that we have.
A word of warning...this movie is not for children, especially under the age of 15 or so.

I saw the movie and could understand a little why some important dignitaries from India were not too happy with the picture of poverty this movie paints of conditions in their country. I am sure they exist. I do not think that any movie maker would imply that things are worse than they are. I was shaken by Missy saying that some of the people they were feeding there in her area who were hurting were only going to get that one meal that day. In other words people are going hungry right now in our country and with this economic meltdown this is bound to happen more and more. Maybe that is why the academy voted this movie the winner, since it tackles poverty in a way we don't often see in our movies. Maybe it will help us to keep better track of all those being affected by these tremendous job losses. What a hurt that is going to lay on so many! Thanks for flagging this troubling problem. Gerry
born into brothels was another great movie and very sad with the poverty and hopelessness shown. I wonder why they never make the same movies here in our poverty area's, its as bad but maybe not as safe to film.
I have heard good things about this movie. I will look for it when it comes out on dvd.

It was exactly as expected, very much a light hearted chic flic but great for a matinee. By the way , LOVE the tulips! I can't wait till spring, I wish I had put in more bulbs this fall. Oh, well. Saw the trailer, not sure when we will get the chance to see it.
I've been reading reviews and about the movie since the awards. I have to admit, it doesn't seem like the kind of movie that would appeal to me. We'll see when it comes on PPV...maybe we'll get it.
