Summing Up Saturday

Here in this part of the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Mother Nature and April brings us daffodils. For the last 76 years the cities of Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner & Orting have worked together to bring us the Puyallup Valley Daffodil Festival each April. Today was the annual grand floral parade. It winds thru the streets of Tacoma, then moves to Puyallup, then on to Sumner & finally late in the afternoon ends up going thru the center of Orting. I wish I would have made plans to go today, it turned out to be a beautiful sunny & fairly warm day. (Well it got up to 61* so I guess considering what we've had it was warm). I found the following pictures in the Daffodil Festival file. The 2009 Daffodil Court with their Queen

Below is the Queen's float from a previous year.

Each fall the local high schools choose their princess and then in March there's a Daffodil Queen Coronation where a panel chooses a Queen based on their grades, school activities, etc. There are scholarships involved so it's always a tense time for the participants.
Today the Fred Meyer Stores in the area had their annual "Fuchsia Saturday." You bring one or all of your hanging baskets & planters, they have fuchsia & geranium starts on sale "5 for $3", you pick out your plants, pay for them and then the staff plants your starts in your pots for FREE using premium Black Gold potting soil. Such a deal! Free dirt & labor. I just took one hanging basket over there because I haven't fully decided what I'm going to plant this year. But I got geraniums instead of fuchsias. I've decided that as beautiful as fuchsia's can be, they just don't do well here at my house. I went with red & white geraniums so I guess that's my color choices for this year. Maybe adding some blue into some of the containers, later on.
Bob checked out the weather report for the mountains & left very early this morning with his truck and camper for a few more days of skiing. He called me about noon and said the snow was a 12 on a scale of 1-10. The sky was a beautiful blue and the sun shining on the snow made it glisten like diamonds. AND HE FORGOT TO TAKE HIS CAMERA !!! He's going to stay & ski Sunday and maybe Monday. So he's camped out in the parking lot of the ski resort tonight, watching a VHS movie on his small TV/VHS player combination thanks to a generator.
After all that sunshine today, I decided to tackle mowing the front lawn for the first time this year. After picking up a bunch of branches and other stuff I got the lawn mower out and got the job done. The front yard is about 75% moss with grass growing thru it so it was a tough go. I wish the moss would completely take over...moss stays green and it doesn't grow. But unfortunately, there's still enough spots of just grass and grass growing thru moss, so I have to continue to mow. Sunday afternoon, I'll tackle the back yard which is 2 and a half times bigger than the front yard.
Well, that's all for now....there's a Nora Robert's movie coming on in a few minutes and I want to do up the dishes, etc before I settle down to watch it.
Have a wonderful Sunday, until next time.............Linda

Sounds like a fun festival Linda. It's in the 70's here today but we are expecting storms late this evening followed by SNOW showers in the morning. WHAT!!! Crazy.
I just heard on the news about the children that were killed by their father in Tacoma. How sad. If he was so unhappy, why not just take his own life. Why the 5 children. I feel so sorry for the mother (who was not at home). I can't even imagine.
Hugs, Joyce

"Daffodils" was one of my favorite poems to recite. My aunt raised them, and after I helped her with her flower garden I appreciated them all the more. I have not heard of a daffodil festival before. Gerry

Aw too bad you didn't go to the Daffodil parade. Sounds like fun. For a town as big as we are, we don't have much fun or maybe I'm just out of the loop. LOL
And yes, my son is cut off right now. BNFS has systemwide seniority now. So if there's someone from Montana out of job he can bump somewhere anywhere on the system that has less seniority. He's been off work since the week of Thanksgiving. Business is SO slow here. Hoping with Spring and Summer & vacations that these out of towners taking our jobs here can go back to their hone terninals and our young employees can get back to work. He is certainly ready. LOL
Have a wonderful week.

It does not matter what grows in my yard I still have to mow it. Until mid summer when it gets so blazing hot that everything dies! LOL
